I have a UX380N, with vista business installed. frequent problems associated with Windows Vista power management plans. This is probably a motherboard bug. Step-by-step details.... Modify the power plan in Vista to with either high performance or power saver option, and then turn off the computer into sleep mode. Next time when computer wakes up and logged in, the power plan selections are usually lost and mis-configured, such as the time settings for the display screen turn-off and/or system hibernation, and the processor's max./min. performance settings in percentage numbers. The above described problem occurs most of the time after sleep mode, though not al…

I have been having problems with the above. As I have just moved to SCE, I placed the original question on the sce forum, see link, but was advised to post here. http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2318644&SiteID=17&mode=1 In a nutshell, this one particular server is failing to make updates, each time with multiple errors as above. Additionally, I get multiple entries in the log file (are they related?) of source crypt32, event id 8, description: Failed auto update retrieval of third-party root list sequence number from: <http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootseq.txt> w…

Dear All, I don't know if this is possible, but I thought I'd ask.... Is there anyway of using my server as a webcam server? I know it is a strange request, but does anybody know of any software or configuration, so if more than 2 people want to webcam, it can all go through the same place, and all can see everybody's camera? (2 people can just use Messenger, or equivalent) Hope this makes sense... Regards Paul.

I set my screensaver to start after 6 minutes and the monitor to turn off after 15. The screensaver doesn't start, but the monitor will turn off ok. If I go into the screen saver settings and reselect the screensaver I'm using (windows logo) and click apply, the screensaver will work. I'm using a wired mouse + keyboard and vista business 64.

My whole Notification Area/System Tray has disappeared. There's not a single icon there when I boot up, just the clock. When I go to Taskbar properties, "Show the Clock" check box is there and working, but the "Hide inactive icons" box is disabled and the text above it grayed out as well. Could this have required a registry key change? Thanks in advance.

Even after applying the fix, it works for awhile and comes back, and I have to re-apply the fix. This causes me to have to go back and reapply other changes, specifically folder "view" preferences and the "bags8000" registry edit from Kelly. How can I permanently force a program to view my files as organized in explorer.exe through the "open" and "save" dialog boxes. I have another post for with slow explorer.exe folder access. I think these two issues may be related. Thanx all! Thanx Elmo, that did the trick! So, can anyone tell me what I did to make it go bad in the first place? Dev environment has a win2k3 sp2 server in TS admin mode. Domain\everyone is a member of the server administrators group Domain\everyone is also a member of the Remote Desktop Users group Domain\Everyone is also allow(ed) to log on through TS (as is set by membership above) All users are members of the domain\everyone group. All users except one can access the machine via RDP (using RDC). The failing user simply sees the message "To log on tothis remote computer you must be granted........" Any ideas? It works for everyone else, and by all counts it should be working for this user as well. There is nothing that immediately stands out to me that is diff…

Following errors is occur on my Windows vista When viewing the properties for the LAN-connection, it does not show the name on the NIC-adapter, and only shows the "Client for Microsoft Networks", not the installed protocols. When trying to add a protocol the following error is shown: "Could not add the requested Component, The error is: The system can not find the file specified" . The system is running on TCP/IP, and IPCONFIG-command shows the right info

I need to prepare multiple files to burn and transmit to third party during asset sale. I'd like to temporarily keep a copy in my current Explorer file folders. It is important to the other party that a sense of chronological order be retained. If I copy files over to the new party's folder, then a new Date Created shows in Explorer. I guess I can get around that by moving the original to the new folder, then creating a copy for me. However, then I lose chronological create-date settings in my copies. The real problem: some .xls files are mixed and must be split apart to provide the third party only selected data. Any way I go, once I edit the file, resave, and…

Hi A new retail version of XP Pro SP2 arrived this morning. I opted for an Upgrade over XP Home. I got past the enter Product Key - the system restarted. A long white bar was on the bottom of the screen. The upgrade stopped with this error; i8042prt.sys is corrupt - SET UP FAILED. Goggled i8042prt.sys relates to keyboard. I changed my keyboard over - still got the same problem. I have no idea what to do now. Thank you. Stephen

I'm in a quandry over page file usage... I have a Windows 2003 server that has 4GB of RAM. Using performance counters it seems that the Pagefile has been set by the OS to 3.2 GB. I am getting Virtual Memory errors and the page file is filling up, but there is still RAM available. The page file will be full but task manager still shows that there is roughly 3GB of RAM available. I know the system always uses some virtual memory but it seems odd to run out of virtual memory before you run out of real RAM. Has anyone else had a problem like this? Am I missing something?

Hi all I am using the built in faxing service for Windows 2003 SP2 I have had several users notify the help desk that when they attempt to send a fax, nothing happens. They have to print to the fax printer a second time. I have looked at the logs on the fax server - nothing to indicate anything was sent. I scoured the event logs of both the fax server and the Citrix server and nothing fax related. This is working 99.5 % of the time. Are there any troubleshooting measures to take? Anything I can set in place to track one user? Has anyone heard of this before? Regards Ian McCulloch IT Specialist MacLeod Lorway Group Sydney, NS
