My operating system Microsoft Windows 2000 5.00.2195 Service Pack 4. Computer - x86 Family 6 Model 8 stepping 6, A/AT COMPATIBLE 261,424 KB RAM. I am using Etisalat 512 KBPS line. I have ZoneAlarm firewall, Spybot-SD resident, Nortan Antivirus Auto-protect enabled. I have installed 'calling' card s/w on my computer last week and used it succesfully to make calls from my PC to phone couple of times without any issue. But since yesterday, I can't go beyond 'login' screen of the above s/w. As soon as I press 'login' button, after typing user id and password, I am getting the following error msg. 'RTCIn Error - Create Profile Failed 0x80004005'. …

I just installed 2GB of additional ram, and installed a new HD at the same time. Both seem to have worked fine (they show up in the systems reports, and I'm formatting the new drive as I type this), except for one small problem... LOCAL USER could not be found when I booted back up. Smack in the middle of the Welcome screen during the boot-up process, I was told the local user account had a problem and that I'd be assigned a "temp" account, which was virginal - no shortcuts, no automatic messenger sign-in... the OS was untouched; save for the programs installed which were all still visibly there (but the Start Menu program order had reverted back to before I o…

Is there any way to use the clasic logon but still allow fast user switching. When you are logged on and hit the windows button and the l button, it will go back to the classic logon, but you will remained logged on. I know there is a program that does this called DUST (http://www.waybeyonduk.com/DUST/), but is there a free way to do this?

Maybe this question has been answered before, if it has, I apoligize. Can you install a XP Pro dual system (Vista Ultimate 64 bit preinstalled by HP on a SATA drive) onto an external USB Western Digital Hard Drive? Or is it required to install on the internal sata drive with vista? Thank you for your help.

I've Googled this and searched through the various Windows groups, but haven't seen a topic like this posted. To be brief, my windows will not return to their pre-set sizes or positions from session to session. They used to, but no more. Up to about a month or two ago everything was working fine (using Windows XP Pro, SP2), but lately it seems that many of the programs I use forget their basic settings -- like window size and position, and options and preferences -- from session to session. I turn my PC on in the morning and off at night, but during the day I might reboot once or twice. As one example, sizes and positions of the My Computer window and all folder wi…

Help! When I try to update Windows Vista, I get an error code of 8007277B. This code is not in the help file nor microsoft.com. The one thread that keeps popping up says something about searching the "logs" for "context". What logs? And what do I do with the context? How is it that Windows can generate this code, but I can't look up it's meaning? -- r

Recently I had to change my motherboard and when I reinstalled my XP Pro it seemed to be OK. Then when I installed the motherboard drivers for all the integrated services (network card and sound card) I noticed that there were duplicate user folders in the Documents and Settings Folders. I have read quite a few of the various articles available on the internet about how the duplicate folders occur but may not be fully able to grasp what I need to do the delete the extra accounts. Is there someone available who could talk me through the particular situation that I have please? So far, I have managed to change to an Administrator's account and delete duplica…

Hello: As of 10/25/2007, I have not found a way to restore the default Vista folder permissions. I need to do this because I had changed the permissions on the Vista partition while in XP on my dual boot system. I didn't think that it would affect the Vista ACLs but it did--duh! Now my guest account can't logon completely. Per http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/bb629421.aspx, to restore local Group Policy to the default settings in Windows Vista, run cscript GPOAccelerator.wsf /Restore. Completing this procedure restores the local security policy settings to their default values in Windows Vista. It looks like doing that only restored the reg…

I want to promote awareness of how important it is to keep your antivirus up to date and running. I recently built a computer and made the mistake of not installing antivirus or antimalware right away. I would have avoided a whole mess of trouble if I had installed this beforehand! If anyone wants to know more about some tell-tale signs of Spyware and a virus infection, come on over to http://lockedinfo.blogspot.com/

I wanted to move my WSS 2.0 to a new server housing WSS 3.0. So I thought I would upgrade the website to 3.0 than backup and move. The server is Windows 2003 R2 all updated and patched. That went well. Then I decided I did not need WSS 3.0 on the original machine for space reasons. So I uninstalled. Well that removed my entire Default Website, which housed CertServ, OWA and all of the Exchange webs. Now I am uncertain what is the best course of action. Reinstall WSS 3.0 and then retrieve files from backup? What files would I need exactly? The contents of C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ ? Or can I reinstall the certserv website and then the Exchange/OWA websites? B…

Hi all, Thank you for your help in advance. Little urgent as it is for my Police Depart... the most demandging one :) Here is the situation. I have a R2 app server joined the domain. I can ping it by the name from a pc. I also have XP workstation joined the domain here. DNS settings are correctly setup on both clients and server. If I tried to access the R2 from a workstation by typing \\WindowsR2\share_name (or just \\windowsR2), it would tell you an error message saying The account is not authorized to log in from this workstation. I believe the workstation is up-to-date. I think this is the same to the R2 as well. What this happen? and how to solve it? …

I had this problem with either ME or XP,and can I for the life of me remember how I remedied it. If I put a cd with cdrom content (video stuff) into my drive,MMJB and Winamp just sees the drive as being empty. In "My Computer", the icon is the disc with the "+" sign over it,to say it's a cdrom/enhanced disc.I've tried a few of these discs, incl ones you get free with guitar mags etc.But all wont show/play the normal audio tracks.Any idea? Running Vista Home Premium 32 bit.TIA.

Prior to this problem showing itself, I sorted out issues which started with micobill.sys infecting my machine. Having completed that work, I notice quite a few changes on my machine most of which, so far, I have been able to get back to normal but one is causing difficulty. I set the monitor to turn off after 15 minutes using control panel>power options (15 mins) >apply>OK but nothing happens. I have rebooted/tried different times etc. Sometimes when I finally hit 'ok' I notice that random times pop up in 'sytem standby' and 'system hibernates' boxes just before that screen disappears - but not always. Ideally, I want to set 15 minutes for monito…
