Hello, I have Windows XP Pro with 2 useres: Administrator and a Player. I have installed the programs as administrator and want to use as Player. However some program requireas admin rights to work properly. I know I can execute it as admin, but in this case it always requires to enter admin password. Is there any sollution to set to run program as admin by default and save the password as well? It would be nice if the Player would not know the admin password. Thanks in advance! Ferenc

This might not be the most appropriate group to post this question, but I couldn't find a better one. If you know one better suited for the question, please do mention. Where I work (an educational institution in India), there are some 1000 or so machines all running on pirated OS (Win XP Pro.) and all full of pirated software. There is no network other than a dozen or so interlinked in some labs etc. I would like to suggest to my employer the risk of relying on pirated software and some way out. I would be suggesting them to purchase genuine OS and do with free software for the rest of the purposes. Can somebody tell me the best Microsoft OS for such an instit…

They are listedi in drive I: which is a DVD drive but has no disc in it. When I search for dbx files on the HD and on some Acronis discs I made earlier I get the error message ARCHIVE OPEN ERROR An error occured when opening archive. Plug in not found. 0x1B0003 Token = PlaceBrowser Tag= 0xAC6EA1C1803F7BFC I have tried all the MS sites for help but this error message is not found. Happens whenever I search. Please can someone help.

Diagnosing port problems using "Safe Mode" Hi, I have a problem where some software blocks ports. My system is Windows XP, Service Pack 2, with all Microsoft patches up-to-date. The problem started by Outlook Express suddenly reporting that it couldn't connect to my ISP's POP and SMTP servers (ports 110 and 25) anymore. I don't recall that had made any changes in the software, but somebody else is using the same XP system, and they may not be so careful in perhaps incidentally installing some third party stuff. I disabled the Norten Antivirus, to NO avail. I looked at the Task Manager process list and at the running services, but this is confusing…

I have a 3 computer network. They all connect into the 4 port hub that is built in to my ADSL modem. All computers are running Windows XP SP2. All PCs have static IPs assigned to them. All PCs' network configs are identical except for local assigned IPs, of course. When one particular PC starts, at the Windows loading screen the modem disconnects from the 'net, and takes about 3 to 4 mins. to reestablich connection. It has me tossed. I cannot figure out what is different on this particular PC that will cause this to occur. Any ideas? Thanks -- Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular.

Hello: I use Firefox 2.0.0.8 as well as IE 7 I seem to have no problem connecting to internet sites. However, I'm often unable to connect to the sites: http://www.mozilla.org/ https://addons.mozilla.org https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/extensions/ and I'm told that the connection has timed out. My internet connection is DSL via a Linksys router These connection problems occur in IE 7 as well when I'm unable to connect via Firefox, which is my default browser. When those sites are inaccesible, I'm also unable to update Firefox Add-ons via: Tools-->Add-ons-->Find Updates , The process often hangs with errors while trying to…

My PC has an AMD Athlon 64 3400+ CPU, and had been working fine with Windows XP home edition. I decided to upgrade to XP Pro, and since it is a 64 bit CPU decided to get the 64 bit version of XP. I installed a new full copy of XP Pro x64. Formatted the partition first. XP Pro x64 installed and was OK until I donwloaded and installed IE7 64 bit version. After installation and reboot I had a background but no icons and no taskbar or start button. I tried many suiggestions from the web but none helped. Since then i have tried additional clean installations, reformatting again in between, but now every installation leaves me with the same situation no…

I have two systems (specs appended below). On the supposedly weaker system (Dell Inspiron 600m laptop), streaming works just fine, even at 700k. On the supposedly more powerful system (HP Multimedia PC) streaming even at 400k is subject to pauses and jerkiness. This is on the same network, with the same streaming source (icenetwork.com). I have even run both simultaneously (to eliminate possible differences in the server network quality at different times) and the laptop still performs better than the multimedia pc. Can anybody suggest why the weaker system performs better? And how I could get the Multimedia PC to live up to it's potential? TIA, -Ric…

Hello, I recently had to cleanup my computer and remove some malware. My system is running dramatically better now, but I cannot get any Windows Updates. After it goes through the process of downloading and installing updated software, I get the following error code: Error number: 0x8024D007. I emailed tech support but I run into a problem of not being able to open the subinacl.msi file that they recommend I run. When I click on any .msi file, I get the error that "Windows cannot open file." I have received a reply from Tech Support to download this file, but have not had reponses back when I tell them I cannot open it. So now I have 2 proble…

I had the same problem as well. I tried reinstalling MS Office (Small Business) Edition but the update failure message continue to show up. I had submitted a request for assistance from MS quite awhile ago but I did not receive a response. I'm growing tire of receiving a prompt insisting me to install these updates when they had failed to install numerous times before. Is there a way to remove these prompts?
