My Vista on a Gateway GT5422E was working great on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007. On Friday, I had no sound at all. I had a few other minor errors also, i.e. ATI Radeon x1550 Catalyst Center will not work. My I-tunes, Windows Media Player or any sound do not work. I re-installed the Realtek Sound Drivers with no luck. I checked all Windows updates. I did notice that there was Windows Updates on Friday Morning (3 a.m.) which I cannot roll back. My restore does not work at all...says error 0X81000202 "cannot restore to an earlier date". I uninstalled with McAfees Tech support the entire virus/firewall suite, in case this was the problem, also with no luck. An…

Hi, I am on windowsxp, using IE version 6 on a compaq laptop. I have a problem that has always bugged me since I got this machine and it is getting to be really irritating. The scrollbar on the right side is unstable as hell. If i am reading something and want to scroll down and click the down arrow it will close the window or the window may close and pop back up. Yeh, really irritating. I can overcome this by making sure that the mouse arrow is absolutely, absolutely on target with no wiggle room whatsover but if it just appears that the mouse arrow is over the down arrow on the scroll bar that is usually not enough. I have worked with lots and lots of m…

Hi, I have a problem with my logon time for windows xp pro sp2. Recently i noticed a huge increase in logon time while starting up windows. When i load my pc, the "loading your personal settings" screen is taking about 40 secs to complete. Bootvis shows that SVChost (or anything else) basically does nothing for these 40 secs and that svchost is the service that's causing the delay. I am thinking it is a bug or a setting in the registry or something, but have been unable to locate the problem. All patches are applied, no virusses or other mischivous malware detected (running nod32). Also not sure what cause it. Didn't do anything special, like installing things …

Hello everybody, I found something that seems to be strange with the Run dialog in Windows XP or 2003 (and maybe others, but those are the versions I checked). I think you may find it interesting. If someone have an explanation please tell me/the others about it. Here it is: Try this: Go to Start --> Run. In the Run dialog box, type homeWhatever, where instead of "Whatever" you can type whatever you want, but don't use spaces between them. Your default browser will open, with some search result for this string. If such a web site exist, it will probably open. For example: typing homeMicrosoft opens the http://www.homemicrosoft.com/ w…
