Steps to repro: 1) Create a new folder. 2) Create a link to that folder in some other directory. 3) Rename link to the folder name (remove the "- Shortcut" part of it). So, we're making the folder and link target match in name. 4) Move the folder to same directory. If will ask you to merge content, say yes. 5) Click on the link version, and it will say the location doesn't exist anymore, which is correct. But, it also doesn't display the contents of the folder that were moved either. 6) Cmd.exe into the thing that Explorer thinks is a shortcut, and verify the moved files are there. To summarize: When a shortcut is merged with a folder of the same name,…

Aloha. Probably a simple answer, but I don't know it. How come when I view a collection of pics on a CD or DVD, I don't get the option to View as a Slideshow? Is there a way to force this? Thanks all!

Hi, I look after a range of application that run in both Win2000Server and WK3 Server (SP4+SP1 resp.) Have done succesfully for a a good few years now and thought that I knew my way around them quite well. These applications demand that the machine is not in a larger AD. They need to be standalone or in their own AD domain. Strange thing; when I look at security settings I see that, for example, their maximum password age is 42 days and password complexity is enabled...this shows as both configured and effective settings...yet I've never had to change a password or use a particularly complex password. It's like the "effective setting" is not actually …

Now if Linux users could only get China to stop their campaign of human rights violations. Stuff like killing babies when a mother/family go over quota. Hello, can someone please help me? I am running Windows Vista and using the Windows Movie Maker program that came with the new PC. I just spent all night making my first music video in Movie Maker, but there's a major problem. After I publish the video (on default settings) to my PC, it plays until 1:09 and then the video goes black. The sound remains, and I can see where I used the "fade in from white" effect. The credits still roll at the end, but after 1:09, my clips do not show up. I'm very flustered, because I'm very proud of my video and I want to share it with my friends. Here's a list of facts for you to consider: * I did not mov…

I recently purchased a new computer with Vista Home Basic pre-installed on it. The recycle bin properties is set for deleted files to reside in the bin until emptied rather than bypassing bin. However, deleted files do not appear in the bin although the waste-bin icon indicates that there are deleted files there. If I empty the bin, I first get confirmation of the number of files about to be permanently deleted. If I use the Search facility for a specific named file it is found and can be recovered from the recycle bin so the deleted files must be in the bin but I cannot see them. Anyone got any suggestions as to what is happening and how I can resolve it?

Whenever I try to click on any of the gadgets on my sidebar, the fingerprint reader icon appears and blocks out the gadget. After googling I find that I am not the only one with this problem, but havn't seen any solutions yet. Can anybody out there help?
