WDS pxe boots
by Guest MrMako- 0 replies

I hope this is the best place to post this as I saw no WDS forum. I have a WDS server setup running on Win2k3 Sp2 and everything seems to be initialized. I can PXE boot a machine and it will show up in the pending devices windows. I had the system auto accept the client and it made an AD computer object, but the process was interrupted so we had to start over. Now for that machine only we get this error: PXE-E55: Proxy DHCP service did not reply to request on port 4011 All other machines we can PXE boot and they appear in pending, but then if we try a second time they fail. It is as if WDS records their MAC and will not let them PXE boot a second time. We…

Re: Acronis True Image Home v. 10 problem (doesn't work, avoid, in favor of Norton Ghost)

I was a long time Ghost user myself from way back when you ran it from a single floppy. (version 5 or 6) I've discovered that Ghost was fine up and until Symantec bout it and came out with Ghost 2003. From there on it was all downhill. Much more complex to use, etc. That's when I heard about Acronis Trueimage and downloaded their 15 day trial version, I think that was back at ver 8 of Trueimage. I've never gone back to Ghost since. I haven't had a single problem with Versions 8,9, or 10 in both backing up and restoring anything. I'm sorry that it's just not working properly for you. In Windows Server 2003, I've found the following bug (in Windows 2000 Server, everything works perfectly): In Internet Option, I've added an "supervisor password" to "Content Advisor" and I've also specified a hint which tells users to come to see me if they need the password. However, the hint isn't displayed. Instead, "<NONE>" is displayed! I've done the same thing in Windows 2000 Server but the hint string is displayed correctly. PS: IE7 is installed in that Windows Server 2003.

Permissions to restart windows Service
by Guest Ken Beard- 0 replies

Here is my dilemma. I have a user to whom I do not want to give administration rights to a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise system. However, I need to give him permissions to stop, start, or restart a few, not all, services on the server. I found Subinacl which gives the permission but when the user attempts to see the service through MMC and Computer Management connecting to the server he gets "unable to open service control manager database on SERVERNAME." So I guess my question is, is there a way to allow a user to stop, start, and restart select services without having administrator role rights on the server? THANKS for all the help, -- Ken Beard MC…

Hi! I have a 3 computer LAN set up, and have an innane question. On two of the systems, when I display the network, it shows the shared files on each of the computers, while the third shows under the heading "Local Network" the shared files on itself, then under the secound heading "The Internet" it shows the other two computers shared files. Hi guys, I keep getting an "Ending Program..." pop up window whenever I shut down or restart my computer. Its window title is "MCI Command Handling Window". I wait for it to try closing however when the progress bar reaches the end it always says "This program is not responding. To return to Windows and check the status of this program, press cancel. Otherwise, click 'End Now'. You will lose all unsaved information... etc.etc.". I press End Now since I want my computer to shut down however when Windows exits to the "Logging off" screen, it hangs there and I have to do an improper shutdown. I've tried looking for the MCI application on Task Manager as well a…

document ownership on Windows Server 2003

We have a NAS with 2003 Server which has shared drive space on it. We also have other server which are not NAS with shared drive space. If we set both shares up identical with permissions we have a different result as far as document ownership. If we create a document as a user on the NAS (actually more than one NAS) in a share, the owner of the document is always the local administrator account. On the other servers it is the creator of the document which is what we want and has always been in the past. We need the creator of the document to be the owner. Any ideas why the local administrator account would always come up as the owner? I have at the top …

Dell 1.0 was a religious company. I suppose you could refer to it instead as merely an intense focus on low costs in all matters of its operations, but it really went deeper than that. Low cost was an article of faith that was the deep guiding principle underlying essentially everything that the company did. Dell didn't merely tilt toward a streamlined supply chain and lean R&D, they were a fundamental part of what it was as a company. This is not a pedantic distinction. Focus can be adjusted and tweaked; it's that much harder to change your core. Yet that's what Dell had to do. It had to respond to a world where "cheap boxes" was no longer the guiding mantra for se…
