ASR restore & RAID drivers....
by Guest Noctaire- 0 replies

We created an ASR backup on a server with a RAID array (mirrored drives), swapped the drives out, then ran a restore on the new drives. Everything appeared to go ok but when the restore was done and the system restarted, it just kept rebooting. Didn't appear to make it past the POST. Are there any known issues with an ASR recovery and RAID controller drivers? Although it makes sense one would have to do the F6/add drivers bit during a fresh installation, I don't see why the restored version of Windows would be unable to handle the same controller on a new drive pair.

Logging On -- Cannot find Local Profile
by Guest sman- 0 replies

Hello, I share my PC with a friend who was using a limited account. When they logged on, a message appeared stating that their profile cannot be found … can’t log on. I deleted that account, made another and tried to log on, then that same "cannot locate local profile" message came up. My guest account works but, I cant figure out how to make a second account without that massage appearing. Some direction would be great. Thx.

Single Step Exception
by Guest elwornick- 0 replies

When shutting down my laptop, I get the message that a single step exception has occurred with tscd_win32.exe. My choices are to click OK to terminate or Cancel. Whether I click a button or not, the computer still shuts down so it doesn't matter what I click. My question is, I looked up the filename and it says it is part of the NTRU Cryptosystems TSS program. I looked in Add/Remove Programs to try and remove it, but nothing like that is listed there. Is this file a part of a Windows update or some other program? I'd like to remove it so I can get rid of this error when I shut down. Thank you in advance for your help!

Just thought I'd post my findings on how to change the settings with webview in relation to My Computer, Recycle Bin, and Control Panel. If anyone's interested, I (a person of limited HTML knowledge) found it quite easy, so you probably would too! First of all, all the files that need modification are in C:\Windows\Web. System and hidden files must me shown. The folder called FOLDER.HTT controls how all folders look (Except the WINDOWS and SYSTEM folders). In the "style" section of the file, right near the top, some of the major changes can be made. P.S. To enable wedia preview, which is very handy, scroll down to the "script" section (not far down…

Visual styles auto-enables sporadicly?

Hi all, I am running Windows XP Pro SP2 on my laptop (Thinkpad T60p), with the "Windows Classic"-theme. Every now and then when I boot the computer - I have not yet figured out any pattern - something causes Windows to apply the blueish WinXP look to windows and system taskbar. When I open My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Performance Options, a check mark has appeared at the "Use visual styles on windows and buttons" option. When I clear the check box, everything is back to normal, but a few days later its magically turned on again as i boot the computer. This is my third laptop running XP Pro SP2, and I have never met this problem b…

Windows Server 2003 R2

Has anyone run across an issue where they installed 2003 R2, then joined it to a domain after the fact and having trouble with files copied saying you don't the necessary permissions to either open the file or run the install of an application from another server? I have found with 2003 R2 that if I join it to the domain during install I don't have this issue. If this has happened besides a re-install is there any way to correct this issue. Thanks.

When I start my Windows XP Professional x64 I have no access to any USB devices. In system>Hardware>Device Manager it shows my Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller has an Error 10. If I uninstall it and then run the 'Add New hardware' wizard it detects it and works fine but upon restarting the machine it has the same problem again. I have tried updating the driver but to no avail as well as physically unplugging the connections from the motherboard and rebooting etc. Help please, Thanks

On my Vista machine which has Admin Approval mode enabled for administrators, the Behavior of UAC prompt is set to Prompt for credentials. I'm using a Domain Administrator account. When accessing the Registry locally, the UAC prompt for credentials, pops up before I can access the Registry. When connecting to the Vista registry remotely from a non-Vista machine, are the same registry keys & values available as the ones accessible when using regedit locally on the Vista machine? Is there a difference in the keys/values accessible when accessing the Registry remotely/locally ,when 'Prompts for credentials' is the behavior of the UAC prompt for ad…

Page File Usage
by Guest EricPaul- 0 replies

I'm in a quandry over page file usage... I have a Windows 2003 server that has 4GB of RAM. Using performance counters it seems that the Pagefile has been set by the OS to 3.2 GB. I am getting Virtual Memory errors and the page file is filling up, but there is still RAM available. The page file will be full but task manager still shows that there is roughly 3GB of RAM available. I know the system always uses some virtual memory but it seems odd to run out of virtual memory before you run out of real RAM. Has anyone else had a problem like this? Am I missing something?

Hi, I have installed a new Win2K3 - R2 Server as member server of the domain with roles of File Server and Print Server. We have folder share for users on the server and all users are mapped to this share. Folders have rights as per different groups and users. The problem is that sometimes the response for users accessing the files on the server is very slow. Its fine normally, but suddendly the access to any file or while saving it hangs for sometime and gets back normal. There are no sort of errors in the event viewer or any sort of performance issue. I have enabled the File screening option to block audio, video and installer files as per buil…

Hi all, I have a problem for slow auto logon without any domain (just a workgroup) for running in Fujistu P7230 notebook. After loading the personal setting, it has to wait almost 1 minutes to load the desktop icons. I have tried to delete the profiles and use other accounts to auto logon and it still does not help. My method for auto logon is change the registry key to autoadminlogon key to 1. And if my machine does not has any slow problems if I do not set any auto logon. Please advise. Thanks, Ivan

Vista-Ubuntu

Here's a quote " Then how come I'm so much more at home with Ubuntu than Vista? It boils down to one abiding impression: Ubuntu goes out of its way to get out of your way, even if it doesn't succeed all the time. Vista goes out of its way to be Vista and enforce the Vista way. You must conform regardless of the implications." This is why Linux users want Linux. Read the rest here http://community.zdnet.co.uk/blog/0,1000000567,10006217o-2000331777b,00.htm caver1
