downloads and videos stop before completing
by Guest Jeanne- 0 replies

I had a problem with Norton 2005 IS corrupting some files. It affected both browsers, IE 6.0 and Netscape so that I could not get online. I'm not sure if the downloading and video problems are related. Anyway, Norton told me what to do to get back on the internet but said I had to upgrade to 2008. I had just renewed my subscription last month to the tune of $53. and now they wanted me to upgrade at an additional cost of $70.+ I decided against that and want to go with Verizon IS, however now I can't get software downloads to complete and if I want to watch a music video, say on you tube, the video stops after one or two minutes. If I push the slider, sometim…

My system freezes up 80% of reboots. I looked in the Event Viewer and it looks like it's related to the SSL Server credential private key. Any ideas? Thanks! Develop Script to Define ODBC Data Connection
by Guest Joe Cletcher- 0 replies

How do I find out how to script the definition of an ODBC data connection? I am developing an Access front-end to an ODBC supported database. When someone new runs the front-end, I would like to check to see if the ODBC connection has been defined for that PC and create the ODBC connection if the connection has not been defined or is incorrectly defined.

about MS Picture Manager and OIS.exe
by Guest bill@love.ranch- 0 replies

when I open PM everything is fine. I then close it and OIS.EXE stays running and keeps a lock on the whole folder I was viewing so that I can't delete any pics or change names of file/folders. I kow this because I installed an unlocker program and it lists one or more instances of OIS.EXE as having the file open - even though PM is closed. When I unlock it from OIS everything is fine. How do I make OIS behave? On my laptop OIS closes when I close PM. Same versions of XP SP2 with updates. thx

slow drawing of desktop icons
by Guest doncee- 0 replies

Have noticed lately that my desktop icons are slow to draw or refresh on reboot. I remember in Win98 when this would happen there was a file in the Windows folder that I could delete & the file would recreate itself on reboot & would be much smaller in size and that would solve the problem for a while. Is there a workaround like this in XP or any other suggestions to deal w\ this very minor but somewhat annoying problem?? thanx dc

Custom Shaders for DWM
by Guest MueMeister- 0 replies
Hi guys, anybody detailed experiences with the destop window manager ? What I want to know is whether it's possible to apply custom pixel shaders on an application window. I know about the blur effect which is realized with a small shader program running on the GPU. Since all windows in vista's aero glass are DX3D textures there should be a way to apply a shader to this texture? MSDN on DWM does not expose such an information. Any ideas ? TIA MueMeister

There is another way to remove OneCare on your pc and I think this is much better than going to the add or remove programs. There is a cleanup tool that you can download on the microsoft.com site which is the ONECARE CLEANUP TOOL http://download.microsoft.com/download/3/a/5/3a55dc68-6466-43e8-b886-f6e1ab829d12/OneCareCleanup.exe Go to this link and you should be able to download the clean up tool just remember to save it on your desktop. Hope this helps -- Prevention is better than cure "Liz" wrote: > I went to control panal and deleted Windows OneCare that way. Is there > another way I should have removed the program. Yes please. I run my cleanup/spyware/defragmenting etc at night when i am asleep and I would really like to be able to set my PC to shut down either: a) When program XXXXXX.exe closes or b) After X/X/XX hours/minutes/seconds WinRAR has a feature that allows you to shut down your PC when it has completed an archive this really should be a simple addition I would think. HELP! Default User disappeared! :-o

I just installed 2GB of additional ram, and installed a new HD at the same time. Both seem to have worked fine (they show up in the systems reports, and I'm formatting the new drive as I type this), except for one small problem... LOCAL USER could not be found when I booted back up. Smack in the middle of the Welcome screen during the boot-up process, I was told the local user account had a problem and that I'd be assigned a "temp" account, which was virginal - no shortcuts, no automatic messenger sign-in... the OS was untouched save for the programs installed which were all still visibly there (but the Start Menu program order had reverted back to before I or…
