Hi, I have a problem with my logon time for windows xp pro sp2. Recently i noticed a huge increase in logon time while starting up windows. When i load my pc, the "loading your personal settings" screen is taking about 40 secs to complete. Bootvis shows that SVChost (or anything else) basically does nothing for these 40 secs and that svchost is the service that's causing the delay. I am thinking it is a bug or a setting in the registry or something, but have been unable to locate the problem. All patches are applied, no virusses or other mischivous malware detected (running nod32). Also not sure what cause it. Didn't do anything special, like installing…

Hello everybody, I found something that seems to be strange with the Run dialog in Windows XP or 2003 (and maybe others, but those are the versions I checked). I think you may find it interesting. If someone have an explanation please tell me/the others about it. Here it is: Try this: Go to Start --> Run. In the Run dialog box, type homeWhatever, where instead of "Whatever" you can type whatever you want, but don't use spaces between them. Your default browser will open, with some search result for this string. If such a web site exist, it will probably open. For example: typing homeMicrosoft opens the http://www.homemicrosoft.com/ w…

Hello, I have Windows XP Pro with 2 useres: Administrator and a Player. I have installed the programs as administrator and want to use as Player. However some program requireas admin rights to work properly. I know I can execute it as admin, but in this case it always requires to enter admin password. Is there any sollution to set to run program as admin by default and save the password as well? It would be nice if the Player would not know the admin password. Thanks in advance! Ferenc

This might not be the most appropriate group to post this question, but I couldn't find a better one. If you know one better suited for the question, please do mention. Where I work (an educational institution in India), there are some 1000 or so machines all running on pirated OS (Win XP Pro.) and all full of pirated software. There is no network other than a dozen or so interlinked in some labs etc. I would like to suggest to my employer the risk of relying on pirated software and some way out. I would be suggesting them to purchase genuine OS and do with free software for the rest of the purposes. Can somebody tell me the best Microsoft OS for such an instit…
