Armchair Architects: Architecture and Ambiguity
by Guest EricCharran- 0 replies

Welcome back to another episode of Armchair Architects as part of the Azure Enablement show. So today we're going to talk about something a little theoretical. We're going to talk about the relationship between architecture and ambiguity. What do you do when the specs aren't entirely clear, or the plans aren't entirely clear? What people need isn't entirely clear? We're going to discuss that with our architects. It's not uncommon for people to come to architects with very vague statements or questions that aren't really precise. Or a problem needs to be solved, but it's not really clear what that problem is. What can architects do to help with ambiguity?…

Announcing the Public Preview of a new top-level CDC resource in ADF
by Guest Noelle_Li- 0 replies

One of the most difficult aspects to building enterprise-ready data integration pipelines is capturing just the latest changed data from disparate sources quickly. Change Data Capture (CDC) is a set of technologies and techniques that enables data engineers to discover changed records as they occur at the source. Azure Data Factory (ADF) has recently added many new CDC-enabled connectors to process change data from SQL, Storage, Cosmos DB, and many other sources. Much of the feedback that we received from our users about this has been centered around making it easy to configure and to continuously detect changes at the source. We heard your feedback and are …

How to use Get-Credential with Windows containers
by Guest Vinicius Apolinario- 0 replies

The idea on this blog post came from an issue opened by an user on the Windows Containers GitHub Repo. I thought the problem faced by the user should be common enough that others might be interested in a solution. Get-Credential cmdlet pop-up If you use PowerShell, you most likely came across the Get-Credential cmdlet at some point. It’s extremely useful for situations on which you want to set a username and password to be used in a script, variable, etc.. However, the way Get-Credential works is by providing a pop-up window for you to enter the credentials: On a traditional Windows environment, this is totally fine as the pop-up window shows up, you ente…

Sentinel Watchlist Automation Using Logic Apps
by Guest timurengin- 0 replies

Microsoft Sentinel offers many ways to automate tasks. Watchlists are a key component to correlate data sources in detection rules, queries, hunting, and playbooks. It can be a tedious task to keep watchlists updated if their contents are based on dynamic and changing data. Fortunately, the process of editing existing watchlists or creating new ones based on the results of alerts generated in Sentinel can be fully automated using Logic Apps. There are many watchlist actions configurable in Logic Apps – here is a post by Benjamin Kovacevic covering them. This article will show an example of adding items to a watchlist based on the results of an alert. The steps for …

Genomic Data Storage in Azure: Basic Compression for Mapped Sequencing Data
by Guest Sumit_Basu- 0 replies
In this article, we show how compressing mapped (aligned) genomic sequencing data (BAM files) using the CRAM standard can reduce storage size (and cost) by around 63% at a compression cost of under a penny (< $0.01 USD) per sample. We demonstrate our results on a set of 62 whole genome sequencing (WGS) samples from the 1000 Genomes Project. We also give detailed instructions on how to use this method on your own data. Introduction Organizations that work with genomic data often need to store large amounts of sequencing information for large numbers of samples for long periods of time. This can result in substantial storage costs, especially when the data n…

These individuals often are volunteers who offer their time and expertise to cover knowledge gaps in our portfolio or to keep the existing content current. In this series, we’ll be interviewing repeat contributors to the Microsoft Learn platform to get to know them better and to learn what motivates them to keep contributing. Container Apps a Practical Scaling with Azure Queue Scale Rule
by Guest yodobrin- 0 replies

The 202 pattern is a way to handle long-running requests in a scalable and resilient manner. The basic idea is to accept a request, but instead of processing it immediately, return a "202 Accepted" response, with a location header that points to a status endpoint. The client can then poll the status endpoint to check the progress of the request. Further reading - Asynchronous Request-Reply pattern - Azure Architecture Center. Whats is the Use Cases? This pattern can be used in the following scenarios: Where the request processing time may vary significantly, or Where the client does not need to wait for the request to complete before performi…

Lesson Learned #301:How to check the performance of my database? Resource Consumption and Wait Stats
by Guest Jose_Manuel_Jurado- 0 replies

In several service requests our customers asked how to check the performance of a database. During this discussion we reached to discuss why is important to check Wait Stats, for example, CXPACKET, SOS_SCHEDULING_YIELD, PAGEIOLATCH, PAGELATCH, etc.. among others, because that means what is waiting for SQL Server to execute the workload. In a performance scenario, normally, I used to review two main things: Resources consumption: High CPU: might means that we have Conversion Implicit, missing indexes, a lot of workers working in parallel, a lot of single process running concurrently, bad execution plan based on statistics, parameter sniffing, etc.. High Da…
