I’ve been having problems with my pc ever since I’ve set up a network at home. The network seemed to work for a couple of days before my pc would lock up a few minutes after the pc started. If I start my pc without the internet connected it will not lock up but as soon as it’s connected the problem starts again. I have ntl/virgin broadband, my router is a belkin model no. F5D7230-4. Any help would be much appreciated.

One of the really nice features of Vista is how you can use file properties like 'Tags,' 'Categories' and 'Status' to help filter and sort files in a folder (at least for those file types, like Office documents, that support keywords). I like being able to add tags to Office 2003 documents in the file properties pane at the bottom of Explorer without needing to open the actual file. What annoys me is that I can't update the tags of Office 2007 in the same pane. What a pain! I have to right-click the document, Properties, Details tab just to be able to add a new tag to the document! :-P If this doesn't sound like rambling gibberish to you, then maybe you …

I would like to install the old XP sound recorder on the Vista PC. Would you give me more details on where I can find the file to copy from? I don't have the XP PC anymore but still have the setup CDs. Thanks. "Richard Urban" wrote: > I posted about a week ago that the sound recorder from Windows XP can be > used in Vista. I have a file server that houses all users information, files, etc. I just upgraded the hard drives and thought I had backed up quota settings, but in fact only backed up 1 users settings. Anyway, all users files have already been restored and now I need to go back in and setup the quota again. The problem I am having is that when I setup the quota for Mark, it will show him as using 0Mb when in fact, his files (which he is the owner of) actually take up 50Mb. Now I read that disk quota only applies to files being added after the quota has been setup. Is there any workaround to get the quota to recognize the files that were already there before I …

All our user home folders have been moved from one fileserver "server-x" to a new fileserver "server-y" which creates a Briefcase issue. The drive letter mapping is kept the same. The synchornized folder still has a reference to server-x in the Briefcase. How can I update this easily to point to server-y I want to avoid setting up new briefcases for +/- 500 end-users. Thanks in advance for this technical challenge.

Hello. We are a small business (70-100 users) with two domain controllers both running Server 2003. Going forward, we would like to use the new Network Access Protection (NAP) to help with client security. We know that installing a Certificate Authority on the domain is a necessary first step in this process. Can anyone tell me if there is any reason NOT to install the CA on one of our two domain controllers? I know Microsoft best practices indicate that a CA should not be installed on a DC "for security reasons," but I'm guessing that on balance, small shops like us might not be as concerned about those potential security problems. Also, …

Hi, I have to set up a Win2k Server to use with Exchange 2003. Exchange is only going to be used on the local LAN. (I have only set them up before when I have had a fully qualified domain name to give the machine, correctly associated with its IP address.) The machine has a private IP address, eg 10.0.0.100. I gave it a made-up domain, eg plug.local and a machine name of "exchange". All seemed well - until I tired to connect mail on user machine. When trying to create a new mail Exchange account, I put in "exchange.plug.local" - and it couldn't find it. I put in 10.0.0.100 and when I tested the account name, it changed it to "exchange.plug.local" …

Hi, I have been using Vista backup (Vista Ultimate) for a couple months now. The first month all was well. It did a full backup, then incrementals each night. This is to an external 750 gig USB drive. Around day 35 backup failed because it over-filled the target drive. I was surprised on two counts. First, it didn't do a full backup at the one-month mark. Second, it didn't detect ahead of time that the target drive was 99% full. To resolve this issue I manually deleted the previous backup (dangerous, but I'm stuck at this point right?). And then I used the wizard to start a backup - and it did a full backup. The next night it did an "incremental…

I'm running Vista Home Premium- 32 bit - SP1. I use MS Outlook. Frequently, when I open an email which has a Word Attachment, upon closing that attachment, I get a message which says "Microsoft Word has stopped working...". It will often then re-open Word with a blank document. (Word version 2007 (12.0.6311.5000) SP1 MSO (12.0.6213.1000 Of course, MS Word SHOULD have stopped working since I closed the document. I have had similar problems with Excel, but in all cases, it only happens when the Excel or Word document is an attachment to an email. I tried to re-create the problem by opening the same email, and then it works, only to fail later on a ne…
