How many different boot configurations does XP keep and how are they identified? I have an older ABIT NFS7 v2 home built system that runs great most of the time. But about half the time it's good other times Nort 2007 now 2008, AVG, and Avast errors out on virus scans repeatedly on the same load also Spybot or Ad-Aware full scan hangs, forcing a reboot. I have found that if I do not scan the windows folder the virus scans and Ad-Aware full scan work. Please don't say reload the system as I have many TSR's and tweaks on this system that I never could duplicate it again. The system was running great until 2 months ago when a memory stick started throwing errors. …

When using My Documents folder redirection to Users Home Directory on a Server 2003 R2 SP2 file server with disk quotas, items deleted from the user's My Documents folder are stored in the Recycler folder. This is causing a huge amount of content in those Recycler folders being counted toward users' disk quotas--which is unacceptable even if the default size is set to 1% since the file server volume is over 400GB. We know from experience that our users will not be disciplined enough to empty their recycle bins. Since we use VSS to provide previous versions of files, we may decide to use Group Policy to prevent deleted items from being sent to the Recycle …

Quick question for you all.. I've set up a virtual terminal server cluster and I'm running all of my machines off differencing disks from a master "sysprepped" 2k8 vhd. Would this improve performance, or am I better having a load of individual ..vhds? My thinking is that any references to the master image should then be cached and so available to all the VM's. Am I right in thinking this? has anyone done any benchmarking on this issue? Cheers

It's actually a lot more simple than people realize. Simply roll back your IDE drivers back to window's default generic driver(do this in safe mode) and when the computer shuts down to reboot, just turn it off, transfer the HDD to the new computer as the master and turn it on. You'll have to update/install the drivers for the new computer but XP shouldn't give you any trouble. I've successfully changed motherboards several times with the same hard drive this way. I am on a website that I was able to translate into English. However, one area requires me to write my name in Hiragana. I was able to find out how to translate my name by using a translation website but the problem is I cannot cut and paste it into the required areas. So I'm wondering is there a way that I can type Japanese?

I was JUST about to ask that question, so thanks for the preemptive response! Well, thanks for the knowledge, anyway - that was a truly stupid thing for MS to get rid of. There have been a lot of improvements to the access of "high level" settings and information with Vista that I really like - the new MMC is great, for example - but this is an example of a significant loss. I have an HP laptop with vista on it. I also have Cooledit Pro 2.0 as my recording software. In the past, my computers (all on XP, I go this laptop for college) had no problem with me plugging my guitar into the microphone input and recording, but with Vista, the audio enhancement will change the volume of my input while I'm playing. I found one way to counter this was to un-check "audio enhancement" but if I do, it only records in mono, which is not what I want at all. Please help!
