Problem was the screensaver wouldn't auto start. Also It wouldn't stay asleep either. I have a PS/2 connected mouse and keyboard so it wasn't the HID non-user input filter that was needed. What was happening was the network adapter kept waking up the computer and resetting the screensaver timer. To Fix: 1. Click "Start/Control Panel/System/Device Manager 2. Under "Network Adapters" is your particular "Ethernet NIC" Right-click and choose "Properties" 3. Click "Power Management" tab 4. Un-Check "Allow this device to wake computer" 5. Click "OK" Fixed. Enjoy..... "tattoo113" wrote: > Hi how can I bget screensavers to work i…

Good morning from Wisconsin, I am looking to implement simple instant messaging (contact list and messaging required, file transfer optional) in an Active Directory environment with Windows Server 2003 at the core and 15 Windows XP Pro clients at the edge. As I know that sometimes non-MS solutions are overall better, I have been looking at two options: LanTalk.NET from Cezeo (http:// http://www.cezeo.com/) and LanToucher Messenger from VitalSoundLab (http:// http://www.vitalsoundlab.com/). So, I am open to opinions of the two products above, and also exploring other available options. Let me know what you have successfully used in your environments. T…

I cannot figure out a way to make Windows Calendar use a proxy for iCal sync. It doesn't seem to have it's own settings, and it doesn't seem to honor the system-wide internet settings. This seems like an incredible oversight. It makes what could be a great feature useless to me most of the time.

Hi, Maybe your zip files are damaged by some reason. You may try Advanced Zip Repair at 'Advanced Zip Repair - Repair corrupt Zip files. Fix Zip files.' (http://www.datanumen.com/azr/) This tool is rather useful in salvaging damaged Zip archives. There is a free demo you can just try. Hope this is useful. Alan -- fyz

Hi all, I am running Vista Home Premium on a Toshiba Satellite I had moved my desktop folder and started having some trouble and then noticed duplicate desktop folders. I used the tutorials and got a single desktop folder with the default location as verified in the registry. There are still some things that seem wrong: 1- If I open the desktop icon properties and click "find target" It opens up to a desktop icon in a directory called "Public Documents". This is a duplicate of my user directory. 2- If I open up explorer to C:/Users I do not see my user name. I have folders for Default, Guest, Public, and Public Documents (the apparent copy of my u…

have automatically downloaded and installed the security update to IE 7 three times. Each time, when the PC restarts it hangs when trying to start Windows XP SP3. The only way I get back to using the computer is to Restore System from a restore point. I have tried last know good, and it doesn't work. How do I trouble shoot this issue.

I have a Windows 2003 SP2 box with three ATA disks and one USB drive (also one ATA CD-ROM). It is an Active Directory controller as well as a file share machine. Randomly, usually months apart, it will give ntfs errors in the system log on one or more of the drives. All drives have been affected, no files have ever been lost. Sometimes, there will be a warning in the system tray about a corrupt file, this is the only machine I've ever witnessed a warning in the system tray for file corruption on. Sometimes, my anti-virus software will begin to crash at this time also. The only other symptom I've noticed is that folders that have not been modified get new …

We have just started using offline files on our network for laptop users. They have a profile directory via Active Directory which they can make available offline. This then synchronises at Logoff and seems to be working. An annoyance we have found however is that if we login as local admin to the laptop to make some changes, when we log out the offline synchronisation tries to occur. This seems an odd behaviour as the local admin has no offline files or network access. Is there a way to prevent the sync happening for this user? Ideally only the primary user of the laptop should be able to initiate the sync. -- Cheers, Steve Gordon MCSE, MCSA:…

This morning after booting my computer Vista installed, on its own, some updates and rebooted. After it rebooted I found that the Windows Update was changes to Automatic. I changed it back to Notify. What is doing this? Vista SP1 has not been installed. I getting ready to download and install it now.

Now that I sit in the shadows and read some of the dumb posts in this ng I find that I cannot even keep up with the jerk's (LOL!) sheer number of posts that are so idiotic it is a joke. It just takes too much time. I cannot imgine, even with all of the cut and pasting since little is original or new, how much time the moron spends on doing this. It just takes more time than I want to spend reading some of the lunacy. The jerk answers just about all of the posts from 4 or 5 other posters. I know a kid would never spend the time. I guess there is really nothing more to do in a nursing home.

Did you ever get an answer to your question about not being able to select text in word? I had the same problem an just like you it was after a upgrade from Microsoft. I think the upgrade ends by resetting the mouse to some default mouse they have. The first time it happened to me I solved it by trying differnet mice until one worked. This time it is harder. I went into the control panel to make sure the system understood what mouse I had but that does not seem to solve the problem. It only happens in word so it is specific to the code in word or the resets they made when they upgraded our version of word. What have you found out? Could you respond…
