After the boot up today, the icon for my AVG 8 (Pro) on my Windows XP Pro (Dell computer) is gone. The anti-virus is active and just finished an update, but how do I get the icon back into my systray (or whatever it is called now)?

This is for anyone who's having trouble with WU (BITS/AU): http://castlecops.com/t106642-How_To_Fix_Windows_Update_BITS_Newly_Edited..html -or- http://www.castlecops.com/postlite106642-.html [i wrote it -- I would have posted the entire set of instructions here, but I wasn't sure if I could upload the Zip file with the Registry fixes on this N.G., so anyone could subsequently download it. However, the necessary File ready for downloading, along with the lengthy instructions, are all located at the above link.] If the above link doesn't work, go to: http://castlecops.com/ Click "Forums" right below the Castlecops logo, then go to the "General Computer Proble…

I have a user with a roaming profile that is using 3 computers in an area - Station 1, 2, and 3. Since the area is far from the main multifunction network printer we installed an HP Laserjet on Station1 and set Station 2 and 3 to print to \\STATION1\HPLaserjet (HP Laserjet on Station1). For backup incase the laserjet jams up or toner is out or whatever, we also added the network main multifunction printer - KonicaCopier. This printer uses TCP/IP printing - RAW on Port 9100. Now when this user goes from computer to computer, they cannot seem to keep their default printer to be the HPLaserjet on Station1. I believe it is because on Station1 the printer…

Hi, I've an ex-SBS2003 server (transitioned), where I use offline folders. However, quite frequently, my client PC will take the shares offline (whilst on a 100Mb LAN) saying the servers are not available. Server CPU hovers at between 20-40%. memory is pretty much 100% anyway thanks to Exchange.. No firewalls involved. But I dont understand why my client thinks the server isnt there. So - two questions: 1) Is there any debug I can enable on the client? 2) Network utilisation is <1%, ICMP roundtrip is 1ms, and with the server stats above, what else could be causing it to "timeout"? Would like to sort this as its quite annoying. Thanks, …

I know this is an old thread but the mystery was cleared up and I wanted to let you know what happened. As a reminder, I was having problems right after an upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro. I was getting all sorts of problems from all sorts of applications. The problem turned out to be with IE and the upgrade. I had installed IE7 on my XP Home system. The upgrade CD had IE6. I've come to learn that what I should have done was uninstall IE7 and then do the upgrade (or MSFT should have made the install "smarter" to see IE7 and not try to install IE6 components). The problems this causes showed up in all sorts of places including Out of Box. Almost …

Hi there Have deployed Windows Server 2008 Terminal Services on a test server, wanted to look at TS RemoteApps and TS Web Access. Installed these server roles, and also TS Gateway, and what fantastic products they are. However, cannot get TS Gateway to accept a SSL certificate, even a self-signed one created from within the TS Gateway management console itself. What happens then is from an external location with no connection at all to the internal LAN, I can enter https://TSapps.domain.com/ts into IE (XP SP3), I am then prompted to enter my domain credentials, then I am granted access to the TS Web Access page, where I have published various basic MS apps…

Hi, I have a Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise server that is acting as a file share server, with several shares that clients mount. The problem I am currently seeing is files are being put onto the shares, but the clients are not seeing them - they exist locally, but clients are not seeing them in Windows Explorer, even after a forced refresh of the folder. Eventually the clients will catch up and the folders will appear to them, but often thats inconvenient timewise. Has anyone experienced this before? Cheers Richard

We recently purchased a pair of new servers and installed Windows Web Server 2008 on them. During the initial setup of the servers I was able to copy data back and forth from the existing 2003 Web Edition server and our 2003 R2 file server. Once I had all the data I needed on one of the 2008 servers I put them both on the DMZ and configured them identically. When it was time to transfer the data (C:\inetpub), or even browse, from one server to the other I was unable to do so. As I said before the servers are identical, the same users and shares on each, both are members of a workgroup called DMZ. The error message: Title Bar – Network Error Win…

Since the following article was posted, have there been any updates to the ..NET framework (any version) to support remote access to the Win64 registry from a managed app running on a Win32 system? We'd prefer to do this in managed code without having to resort to PInvoke calling native code that uses the KEY_WOW64_64KEY flag if possible. Thanks, -Lance How to remotely access the Win64 registry from a Win32 machine in managed code (Part II) http://blogs.msdn.com/cumgranosalis/archive/2005/12/19/Win64RegistryPart2.aspx
