By PowerUser: "Licentious. Obnoxious. Anti-democratic. In case you can't tell, I'm making a direct reference to Mr. Adam Albright. Before I launch into my main topic, I want to make a few matters crystal-clear: (1) Failure to recognize this salient point will result in Adam's getting free reign to enshrine irrational fears and fancies as truth, and (2) as a result of that, my observations are perhaps unique. Now that you know where I stand on those issues, I can safely say that wily cutthroats like Adam are not born -- they are excreted. However unsavory that metaphor may be, Adam acts as if he were King of the World. This hauteur is astonishing, staggering, and…

I have an application installed on a machine that runs xp pro sp2. I would like to move that application to a different machine. Clearly, there are going to be a series of resources like registries that are going to need to be transported as well. Is there a tool that could either determine what registry, or other resource, calls the application is making or perhaps even generate a registry file which could be subsequently modified and transported to another machine? Thanks in advance,

I have a USB headset, which has a built-in sound card (Microsoft LifeChat). When I plug this into one of the USB ports of my pc, Windows automatically switches the default playback device to it, and when I unplug it, Windows switches back to the PCI sound card. The problem is, that when I unplug the USB headset, all the sound play stops, Windows Media Player shows an error message, and I have to restart applications to reflect the changed default sound device. I once had installed the OS X (a hacked version that runs on Intel PC) on my computer (the same hardware), and found unplugging the USB headset (the same Microsoft LifeChat) didn't interrupt playback. In …

....crashes. My every attempts to run 64 bit XP fail with a crash. The longest time I have had the os running is about 3 months. I think I can maintain a computer reasonably well. Now I want to do a course in computing, a good step for me you may say eh...so I only need XP Home Edition to have Microsoft Office Professional 2003(the course requirement office software). I would like to have a backup software and I do have and can operate a backup from Neros BackItUp version 1.2.0.65(in the Nero version 6.6.1.15 which is the last version of the version 6 software) but my experience of backups is to operate the software and understand using XP Professio…

In our environment we are running 3 wsus 3.0 sp1 in a 2k3 ad environment and configure the clients using group policy and client side targeting. I'm finding there are 20 or 30 computers out of 1000+ which are no longer reporting into our wsus servers. I was looking in the registry and noticed that the HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windowsupdate key is missing. I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced this and knows what might cause that and what the fix might be. I can search for these computers on the wsus console and it finds them as if they had reported in at one time but not recenlty. the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVers…

One should NOT have to add any print drivers to 2008 Terminal Server in order for any printer to show up for a user's Terminal Session? (Speaking of TS Easy Print) I run an x64 Terminal Server 2008, and have a user that connects and does not see his HP Color Laserjet 3800n. This user is running Windows XP sp3. I installed the printer on my Vista sp1 machine, logged in as the user, and the printer maps (redirects) as it should. Does anyone know what the deal is here?

Just wondering if anyone could point me to a resource/document that explains the industry best practices for creating user folders in 2003 server? Essentially I'm looking to automate as much of the process as possible, as right now I’m adding and configuring the permissions on the home and Profile folders manually – and this needs to change. Perhaps there's a Microsoft Document that highlights their recommended model from the ground up? Can't say I've come across it yet though. T.I.A. Paul
