Our organisation has recently begun rolling out Windows XP SP3. After installation some PC's , but not all, experience a printing issue where it just doesnt print. Some reported saying that no default printer was installed but it was according to Printers and faxs. Our tempory solution is to delete the printer and re-connect. As we have a relatively large computer and User base this is very time consuming for users and IT staff. Some of the connected Printers also fail to delete making the process a bit more frustrating. Does anyone have a better fix for this?

A friend of mine backed up my old computer onto an external hard drive using the F.A.S.T. program. I really didn't need it because I'm not to worried about all of the settings and stuff. I really just want all of my files (music, pictures, programs, etc...). The new computer that I'm using doesn't even have enought drive space for all of it. I really just want to be able to unpack the files so that I can put them into seperate folders and be able to load the ones that I want onto my new computer, and just access the rest on the external hard drive. Can anyone help me in doing this? Thanks! v/r, brian

I restarted my computer a few days ago and after the loading bar screen it just goes black with only my mouse cursor on screen which can be moved around, but nothing else. I have tried every option under the F8 boot options with the same result. Then, I tried using the Repair options using the disc. Startup repair says no problems detected. System Restore says no restore points are present, which is bull because I know for a fact there were quite a few earlier. It also says that my computer is in a limited diagnostic state. Chkdsk did nothing either. I need some REAL help with this as all of the books I've browsed and other users only give half-handed answ…

It has happened occasionally, but with no predictability that I can see. I change settings in control pannel / power settings / balanced to 10 min for monitor and never for computer. I check the "advanced settings" to assure that they are the same. I use balanced because that seems to be the default in the registry. I do not see the actual settings in the registry. Every so often Vista resets the settings back to 20 min for the monitor. I have looked at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935799/en-us but it speaks of "System Settings page" - I don't know what that is. In any case, my settings have no effect and I can't get the monitor to dependably go …

I work for an OEM that uses a Windows XP system to control a piece of manufacturing equipment. During system setup we change the default system shell (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Shell) to our user interface application (A .NET 2.0 Application) When customers logon to the system with a new account (i.e. a new user, one that has never been used), 1 out of about 10 times the "Personalized Settings" window appears (upper left corner of the screen) and stops at Internet Explorer. In some cases we've waited upto 2 hours, and the shell never starts. We primarily have IE6 installed, but in atleast one case we've had IE7, it also…

One of our customers has a 64-bit Windows 2003 Ent.SP2 domain controller on a VMWare Esx server. The VM has 1 CPU and 1 GB RAM allocated (adding up to 4 GB did not make a difference). Our application tries to dump the registry hives to files and it gets the 1450 error ("insufficient system resources...") on the SOFTWARE hive. The hive is not extremely big (exporting it from registry editor results in a ~75MB file). I have created a very basic sample application that just opens the registry key and calls the RegSaveKey API and we get the same error. Strangely, the "reg.exe" tool, which I would expect to use the same APIs, is successful and it results in a …
