Actually, I am using Windows XP. But I did just figure out how to work around this problem and something analogous might work in Vista as well. After countless uninstalls/reinstalls, I finally stumbled upon this solution. Not really sure how or why it works, but it does. Find your twain_32 folder. On XP, this is C:\Windows\twain_32. Find the subfolder for the device that isn't working. I'm using a Lide30 and for me that folder is: C:\WINDOWS\twain_32\CNQL30. Edit your environment variable and add an entry to the System Variable named Path. Since %SystemRoot% equals "C:\Windows\twain_32", I added: %SystemRoot%\twain_32\CNQL30 Restart any open program…

I have vista on my laptop and was very unhappy with it until I downloaded SP1, which has fixed all the problems I was seeing. I am using Vista business and it is mostly fast enough. The problem is any X64 opsys is that there are going to be some drivers, or applications that will simply not work on it, and we found that on a x64 laptop that just would not work with some of our equipment (USB2 based logging thermometers) because the drivers would not operate on the system. That may be an issue for you using high graphical programs, trying to use devices that may only have x32 drivers. We had problems using Alibre and Solidworks on Vista (mostly vista is…

Info like this, not tweakui, no MS new gadgets, Ultimate extras fraud and other tweaking methods to me are a good indicators of lack of adoption. I too would love to be able to default "more information" along with remove the "Start Search" dialog from the start menu, and disable pointless services like "Task Scheduler" but alas the current user base for Vista is either to sparse or populated with drones.

XP Home Lately, since I upgraded my browser, I get a 15 or 20 sec delay with a lot of disc activity after I click "Turn off Computer" on the Start menu. This is before the Turn off Computer dialog box comes up. The "Shutting down" delay with blue screen that comes after clicking "Turn off" in the dialog box is about the same as before. So what activity is taking place between clicking "Turn off" in the Start menu and getting the "Turn off" dialog box? My browser is already closed before I begin shutdown, and it is not set to empty its cache when closed.

XP Pro SP2 My LCD monitor has both analog and digital modes. At startup, the monitor sometimes sets to one mode, sometimes the other. Digital looks best except it causes some media players like Miro and VLC media players have a blacked out video screen. I am suspicious about the drivers. I have updated the drivers for my GeForce FX 5500 Graphics card and the my ViewSonic VA912b monitor. But I installed them without uninstalling the old. Graphics card driver: In device manager the driver for the display adapter is NVIDIA, v8.4.2.1, 3/9/2005 Driver install file: 84.21_forceware_winxp2k_english_whql.exe Monitor Drivers: Device manager shows two identica…

`Whenever the computer boots up, there is a chance that mouse won't boot up. This problem started happening the last two months. I have used two different mouses and the problem is still there. I have tried different USB ports. I went into hardware devices and deleted drivers and replugged in mouses and its 50 50 whether the mouse will boot up. I have checked for new drivers and there is none. They say vista has the latest. Mouse is working now after I changed port again Maybe I have to reinstall XP and Vista. Can anybody advise how I go about this in some kind of order or advise solution. Roger
