Hi I am running AVG antivirus(not the free one) and have defender turned on. The other day when booting, I was asked if a windows 2003 SBS file in a temp directory could be run. I assented. Since, the Vista security centre has failed to recognize my antivirus and reminds me that defender is turned off. Defender is actually on. If I click turn on Defender from the security centre, then it spends 5 minutes looking for something then informs me that there "are no new definitions available" to me. There seems to be no way to tell it that AVG is installed. I would be grateful for any advice thanks jc =============== Jonathan Crawford jc@tgsi.ne…

This is an interesting post on UAC wherein people of about 12% has decided to disable the feature of Windows Vista, making it behave like Windows XP. Hi, I've noticed that I'm getting dotted rectangles, called "focus boxes" appearing around desktop icons when I select them. Even when I deselect the icon, the focus box remains. This only happens on the desktop, not in folders. This has only recently started happening, and I haven't made any major updates or changes for a while. Anyone know how to turn these off? Thanks

Hi! I am trying to figure out how to change the color of a Windows XP (service pack 2) window for 1 Word document only. I am doing a tri-fold brochure for a client. Normally, on my computer, I have changed display/appearance settings so that I have a cool kind of rose color for for my windows. (As you may know, if you don't want your Windows "windows" to have a standard white background, you can go into cntl panel/display/appearances/advanced and change the color of a "window" to one of the preset, or a custom color.) Changing the custom settings back and forth is tricky, and I often "lose" my custom color settings. Thus, I don't want to have to ch…

As James and I mentioned in our blog post What’s coming in IE8 for IT Pros?, IE8 can now be slipstreamed into Vista and Window Server 2008 OS images. If you manage the desktop images for your organization, slipstream saves you time by simplifying the task of adding Internet Explorer 8 and any IE updates. If you’re adding Internet Explorer 7 to a Windows XP image you’ll typically install XP and then add IE7 before capturing the image -this can take 2 hours! With IE8 and Windows Vista, you are able to integrate IE8 into the image file of the original operating system in about 15 minutes. No more booting the OS image, manually installing IE and re-capturing the image. …
