Okay..I know this has been discussed before...but my question is a bit extended from earlier discussions. I bought a Logitech mouse...and now on my Vista operated machine...the screen saver does not always come on. Upon reading earlier post..it was said I needed to go into updates to find the "HID non-user input data filter"..and install. Well, updates never found it nor is it a part of a previous update that I have done. After much looking, I found the update on the microsoft webpage. I was able to download it. It is an .cab extension file. I had downloaded TurboZip to extract the .cab file since nothing I had does that. My question is..wh…

We are in the process of trying to migrate our existing network printers over to a new, purpose-built Windows 2008 x64 cluster. We've got the two new cluster nodes in a cluster, and have installed the print server service without errors. We can add drivers for the printer(s) on the cluster node, and print test pages from there. Fine so far. Our network clients are all x86 Windows XP. We want to install the necessary drivers on the clustered print server so that they are downloaded automatically, just as with our current Windows 2003 print server. I have been trying all day, searching online documentation, and searching the web, and I cannot find ou…

By PowerUser: "Licentious. Obnoxious. Anti-democratic. In case you can't tell, I'm making a direct reference to Mr. Adam Albright. Before I launch into my main topic, I want to make a few matters crystal-clear: (1) Failure to recognize this salient point will result in Adam's getting free reign to enshrine irrational fears and fancies as truth, and (2) as a result of that, my observations are perhaps unique. Now that you know where I stand on those issues, I can safely say that wily cutthroats like Adam are not born -- they are excreted. However unsavory that metaphor may be, Adam acts as if he were King of the World. This hauteur is astonishing, staggering, and…

Does Vista Business or Ultimate fax service support multiple modems? I understand the operating system will support multiple modems, what about the fax service itself?

We had an older Seagate Firewire (400) that worked very well with Backup Exec 12 using the disk folder option for backup media. We outgrew the drive and obtained a LaCie but it does not support Windows 2003. I've been to the major drive companies and see all sorts of external drives for Firewire 400 but none support Server 2003. anyone know of any drives that will work with Server 2003?

Was looking for some suggestions on monitoring software. Have a few requirements i havent had any luck finding. Obviously i'd like all the basic stuff, disk space, service, and basic health but there are a few other things i'd like to try and do. 1) Agentless monitoring - i know the majority of info can be pulled remotely with WMI and other techonologies so i dont see the need to toss more crap on my servers. This one isnt a must, but if i can find it, great. 2) custom SQL Queries - would like to be able to use SQL Count queries to help monitor some of our apps 3) custom WMI queries to make sure the results are within set bounds 4) Process monitor…

OK, to keep me from banging my head against the wall any more than I have to, can anyone point me to a definitive list of those things that are restricted to administrator users only? Not those that are restricted to administrator users by default (although that would be a nice list to have as well), but those things that there is no way to assign to a non-administrator. Regards, Dave

Hello, Is there a way to make Vista smartly select between various types of network access? I'm using both WLAN at home (2K cable) and an in-built 3G connection (380M) at workplace and on the road. Both work fine, but I'd like to make Vista select the fastest possible access. As it is, it always prefers the slower 3G cellular access, even though I haven't marked it as primary or preferred or anything. That is, when I boot the machine at home, it first acquires the WLAN and starts D/L:ling via it, but invariably as it also acquires the 3G connection some 30 seconds later, it switches to using it. It shows both connections as connected, but only downloads at…

I'm running Retrospect 7.5 for Vista on Vista Ultimate. I received an error message informing me that VSS did not operate correctly during execution & the backup was not completed. The Windows Event Viewer indeed notes that the VSS service entered the stopped state. The MS TechNet referral from EV noted that "The %1 service entered the %2 state." and that this is a normal operation. How can I stop the VSS service from stopping during backup operations? Thanks.

vista was not intended for anything running a cpu of less than 2ghz. it can run of course but will be slow. microsoft is using us as guinnypigs to let them know whats wrong, very unfair i think. you'll need to get yourself a decent powerful pc to run it properly, mine runs well. but when i revert back to xp its still muck quicker, thats why a lot of gamers are sticking with xp. Hi all Just wonder why the behaviour has change in vista when trying to view all the available domains in a network. Under XP you are able to see a Domain structure under 'My Network Places' and clicking on a domain will list all the machines part of that domain. Is there a way i can see similar behaviour in Vista, bearing in mind i have Network Sharing enabled on the Vista machine i am using which is part of one of the domains.
