I am trying to create a system DSN and I run through the setup and test all is OK but when I click OK (after clicking apply) it doesn't appear. It does appear in the registry just not in the System DSN window. I can create the same DSN as a User DSN without an issue and I am a local administrator. Help??

When I start a windows vista backup, in about 8 minutes, the backup failed with this message. An error ocurred. The following informmation might help you resolve the error: Access is denied (0x80070005). However, it is not very helpful. I am not sure which file or which directory that I don't have access. I have the administrator role on my computer. Thanks, J.W.

I'm configuring an Asus eeePC, 4 GB SSD (C:) and 8 GB SDHC (D:). The system sees both as fixed drives. I'm working to remove folders from the small C: drive to the much larger D: drive. Using sysinternals JUNCTION.exe I've created symbolic links, to wit: C:\WINDOWS\Installer --> D:\WINDOWS\Installer C:\MSOCache --> D:\MSOCache The re-directed folders work OK when the OS (XP w SP3) handles requests for existing files. However I've witnessed one MSI Installer installation where the symbolic link C:\WINDOWS\Installer is removed and replaced with a folder then populated with the app's .msi installation database file. I've spent several fruitless ho…

I'm running Windows Vista. When I start up(with wireless or cable) I always have connection to the servers and internet. After an hour or so I lose the connections to the server, but not to the echange server and not to the internet. It's telling me something like "the letter of the station is already in use" How to solve this?

I wish they'd send us XP or something to replace it. This PC came out with XP when XP was new and had all the bugs. I couldn't do a thing with it so I went back too 98se. Well seeing as how the system didn't come with an XP CD. there was no way to ever upgrade or re-install it. Kind of like a recall on a vehichle. Shouldn't thier be a replacement ? We have a couple groups of machines, the first group are machines that we own and the second group are leased. Both groups are running Office 2003 SP2. The second group are all created from a newer image, and the first group are all created from an older image. Both images had Office 2003 installed into them from a network share. When office updates are deployed they are done via SMS. For some reason, there are a couple Office updates for Outlook that only the first group detects as needed, while the second group does not. This was the case with MS07-003 and its replacement, MS08-015 (both Outlook remote code patches). Any idea why only the first group is dete…

I have a Windows 2003 Server that was setup before I got involved, at one point they were hosting their own website. The issue that I have now is that the domain is setup with a .com after the domain name instead of the .local, so when I try to access the website, which is now being hosted by godaddy, I can't get to it in the office. The site is setup on a web hosting server that has a dynamic address, but for now I paid for a static ip for 2 months because of other circumstances. The only way I have gotten it to work is that I had to make an A record in the servers DNS pointing http://www.mydomain.com to the static address. My issue is after the stati…

Hi, I have loaded Vista 64 to see if it is liveable. One of the first problems I have come across is trying to run ActiveX components. 1 - I am prompted to install the ActiveX then verify that I want to install it, but then the info bar says "Your security settings do not allow websites to use ActiveX controls installed on your computer". So why am I allowed to install them in the first place if I can't run them???? I have tried every settign I can find and have got nowhere. I have tried adding the site to the trusted zone - still no joy. A good for instance is anything from the http://www.microsoft.com/download that wants to do genuine windows v…
