W2K3 SP2 Prior configuration was 136GB basic partition with 2 HD in RAID-1. Added a third 136GB HD and successfully converted to RAID-5, with 136GB unallocated space. My understanding is that the unallocated space can't be used to extend the boot partition, and that the space should just be formatted as a basic disk and used for data. Is this correct? Thanks, dpl

When I boot WMC it seems to take ages to load, so long in fact that it seems as though the app has failed. Is this normal or is it a 'feature'? My pc is a Sony Viao with an Intell core duo T5500 @ 1.66GHz and 2GB of Ram running Vista. Mosty programs load reasonably quick so why does this 'native vista app' take so long?

I came accross this interesting article regarding problems when running Adobe's Flash in both Vistas (x86 and x64). http://www.ocmodshop.com/ocmodshop.aspx?a=1201 Essentially what the author claims is that, if you have recurring prompts for installing Flash even if you did a zillion times, you might want to try this: "For Vista (32 bit): Open File Explorer Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash Right-click on FlashUtil9f (or whatever version you downloaded) Select Run as Administrator If you haven't turned UAC off, then you'll get a prompt. Let the wizard install Enjoy Flash For Vista x64: Open File Explorer Navigate to C:\Windows\S…

When changing Windows icons, a dialogue box opens : Change Icon / Look for Icons in this file: %SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll. My question: Is there a registry tweak that can alter this default path to a folder where I keep all saved icons? I have searched Kelly's XP Tweaks and did a Google search, but could not find answers to my query. My system Windows XP Professional SP3 Thanks

Okay, for the heck of it I ran the program under XP SP2 as administrator (via the compability assistant) and praise the Lord (seriously) it worked! So, for me the issue seems simply some change or update that points out a flaw in Copernic that it "truly" isn't compatible with Vista (at least the update Vista). I kept getting administrator errors when trying to use it (plus for the freebie version I had the error Delboy mentionned). Thanks!!!! I would have never thought to go to the compatibility assistant! -- mimijel

I asked a question about saving Vista "Documents" to D drive and was given advice by DL to do to Properties, Location, Move. I thought I did OK but now I don't have Documents in the links in the Explorer window. Vista said the Documents link had moved and did I want to delete it and I did. I though it would make a new one for the new location. Also, now the whole D drive icon shows up in the explorer window as if it were a folder. Can I undo what I've done or get Documents back and get the files under Documents to save to D? I would need to do the same with Pictures and Music. I'm pretty desperate now. I think I've really messed up my new laptop. Thanks for…

Problem appears to be still unfixed, and I display fine as an admin. At least five suggested strings like "Uninstall button vista missing" start showing up off the search box in the knowledge base - but no relevant articles, you'd think they'd at least put in a "we're working on it" placeholder page after all these months, XP downgrade would seem tempting if Mac weren't more so, of course you don't get a CD/DVD to reinstall your own OS any more because it's so perfect you'll never need one (sorry, got a lot of history, don't get me started). The one KB uninstall workaround I saw said "but don't use this for Office 07", the preinstalled trial version of which…

At some point, my system started having problems with .MPG and .MPEG files. DreamScene "stumbles". The video plays normal for about 2 seconds, then speeds up, then OK for 2 seconds, then speeds up, on and on. Dreamscene videos play fine in WMP and other players. As for other MPG/MPEG files: 1. Some videos play too fast in WMP, some play fine. 2. Some videos play too fast in GSpot, some play fine. 3. Some videos play too fast in QuickPlay, some play fine. 4. Some videos play too fast in Windows Media Center, some play fine. 5. There's no consistency some videos play fast in one player and fine in another. I can find no pattern. 6. All seem to pl…

This never done this until I started using VMRC Plus from my client (Win XP Pro SP3). It did find when I used it on the server (Win 2008 Data Center), but I got tired of switching back and forth from my client to the server using my KVM Switch so I installed the VMRC Plus on my client and after I leave for about 30mins and come back my server as reboot and I get the error message from VMRC on my client that the RPC server is not available and it closes. I did have Windows Error Report services send the message on the server.

When Vista starts sidebar it installes MSDE for AdminDB. I have no idea why it needs to do this. I have removed all gadgets and looked at the sidebar.ini file for any clue and cannot find any reference to AdminDB. Either a gadget I tried set the registry to load the MSDE for AdminDB and then did not remove it when the gadget was released or I have changed something that left the system in a confused state. Any ideas? With all gadgets removes it still installs and configures MSDE for AdminDB.

At some point ("yesterday" according to update), I was told there were two updates total 22.0MB for Vista. One is KB950124 and the other is KB950125. Both are related to Media Center. One is a database update for the IR database and the other pertains to XBox 360. I've got a laptop, and I loaded Media Center once just to see what it was. I don't have IR capabilities on my laptop nor do I own (or plan on owning) a XBox 360...but Vista insists that I download and install this update. I feel I don't need these....to me Media Center is not a vital part of the system and since I don't use it, I don't want updates for it, Vista keeps saying I need them. I've…
