Why is it that the photo screensaver prevents the system from going into sleep mode? It is the only screensaver that does this. Thanks! Eddie G

Hi, can anyone help me with this, my brother's computer has suddenly stopped working. It was working fine before he went to bed but when he woke the next morning everything went down - avg, windows defender etc. It then said something about critical files. When he restarted windows loaded but then a blue screen came up. Vista log report said svc host and others never started or crashed on starting. (Possibly said something other than svc but we are'nt sure). He tried to load from disc but it says WINDOWS ERROR, PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGED AREA. When loading without boot disc it says HAL.DLL WINLOAD EXE FILE IS MISSING OR CORRUPTED. He also checked his ram, he has 3 s…

I have an MRP application that works about 95% on 2008 TS. The MRP app has a menu system and certain menu selections actually launch other .exe's - I am having trouble where when making a menu selection that launches an exe, the application appears to try and launch but then does nothing. I do not get an errors, warnings, events, etc. The exe that is being launched is in a trusted zone and I've allowed it in the Windows Firewall as well as just turning the firewall off to test. I suspect my problem may be some security feature or setting of W2k8 TS that is preventing the exe from launching. Anyone with ideas on where or what to look for? The same applic…

We are looking at upgrading our engineering workstations (generally Xeon 2.80GHz w/4Gb RAM upgrading to 6 or 8Gb with NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 video) to Windows XP Pro x64. The main reason is to get better performance from Autodesk Inventor 2009 (we're currently running IV11). One issue we've already seen is that the add-ons we use in Inventor (iProperty Wizard, etc) will not function under x64 Inventor. A big hit but we're seeing what we can do about that. Our other question is we run a lot more then just Inventor. We run the full Office suite of products, AutoCAD, Visio, FastLook, Adobe, and several VB6 free standing apps to name a few. Does anyone know wh…

I am hosting my own website. I redid it using Asp.net. I made sure the structure was preserved, Asp.net started in the services and enabled in IIS. However, my website is not seen from the internet. The old site had index.html, while the new one has Default.aspx which is added on Directory on IIS and moved all the way to the top. Is anything else I need to do? Would appreciate any help on this.

Hello All, Trying to troubleshoot some issues with a Windows 2003 server. Wanted to set up some counters in Performance Monitor only to discover that all of the names are missing. The counters just show up with numbers. Some research on the web led me to this: http://www.itnewsgroups.net/group/microsoft.public.windows.server.general/topic5739.aspx And this: http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/659ab40f-5ca0-4f4f-b003-8f3f3e4514091033.mspx?mfr=true On my system that PerfStringBackup.ini file is only 10k. I did the lodctr /s: command to save a copy of the currently active counters -- that file was only 8k. Tried to restore off the 10k …

Just wanted to add my two cents. I too had this darn blank page popping up everytime I turned on my computer. Saw this thread and realized I too had Magnetic installed. Uninstalled it yesterday and joy of joys, no more blank page. A friend of mine just got a new computer with Vista Home Premium and she got hit with it also and we were thinking it might have been a glitch in the program. After doing more research and finding this site I decided to get rid of Magnetic and that did the trick for me. I hope all of you uninstall it if you have it on your computers and see if it doesn't do the trick for you. Thank you for helping me. Happy computing. -- spacey5…
