Hello Technet, When running Windows Server Backup from the Server Manager (2008) - selecting VSS full or copy backup, it reaches around 3.8gb on C: then fails with an "I/O device error". We've tried saving to alternate disks and network locations, as well as running wbadmin, same error message. It appears to be failing during the System State backup. Server has been restarted, and checked for any more recent updates, but there is no change. I've found reference to this particular error in Vista where the solution was to go to System Protection and disable Shadow Copy on the drives, then re-enable - though I cannot see the System Protection area in 20…

Hi all,I'm new to this forum and hope you can help. All my shortcuts (lnk files) show the same target app! For example they all show the outlook icon instead of the icon of the target app. f I re-associate that lnk file they all change tothe same target, and of course an adobe app can't open outlook and vice-versa. How do I reassociate the .lnk file with the correct target app? The only way to open a target is to go through the program files in my computer. Vista Home Premium 32, with all updates except SP1. Say I'm logged in as my account, and leave the PC and it goes into screen saver, which I have set to go back to he Log-in screen. Now my wife logs in with her account, does her work, and leaves the PC, and it goes into screen saver mode, which again goes back to the Log-in mode. Now I go back to the PC, and click "Switch User" and I go the screen with all the accounts, click on my account and re-enter p/w.. Is there a quick way (keyboard shortcut / icon click) to toggle my sound output between my speakers and USB headset? Currently I have to go through the tiresome procedure of : Right Click my sound Icon --> Sound Properties etc. Besides I need to restart whatever is playing. Can these settings be made to change in the middle of what is playing? eg. a Youtube video or a itunes song etc. -- Rahul

Did anyone ever respond to your question about vista attaching your computer name / your user name so that you have to change it before logging on? I have just recently got myself a new PC with new Vista voice recognition program installed. I am disabled but have found this voice recognition is quite good, but I would appreciate if anyone out there could help me with a few questions on it. How do you make Windows Vista voice recognition work with other programs? if I get up word pad, it works fine, but if I get up windows word processor, it doesn't work. Also if I get up a non windows program such as Google earth, it doesn't seem to work properly with that either. I am sure that all it needs is to be configured, but I don't know how, can anybody help? -- andy t

Hi, I am trying to install Cygwin in my laptop. The first error msg is "system error 5 has occurred". After I shut down the UAC (User Account Control), it seems solved. But later when I tried the "net start sshd", I got another err msg: "system error 3 has occurred". Anyone got any idea about this? Thanks Kelly -- kellycll

I disabled the Firewall and the anti-virus protection, but it didn't matter, since, when I checked for critical updates, I got the error message "Windows could not search for new updates". This is my husband's desktop computer, and I found out that he kept canceling out the updates since 2/22/08. Grrrrrrr! -- Treblegirl

I am using Vista Ultimate machines and after I install SP 1 on them I am unable to run programs or install programs over the network in my domain. When it asks for admin credentials, I provide them and then I get the message, "The account is not authorized to log in from this station." I was able to do this before I installed SP 1 and if I uninstall it I am able to run or install programs over the network. I keep install files on a server 2003 computer with SP 2 on it.
