I have a similar problem as Maurice. I have two XP computers networked. After the Microsoft update I lost connectivity on the Host computer, but could still access internet on Client computer. After downloading the latest version of Zone Alarm Security Suite and reloading the MS update, now my client computer cannot access internet. I get an invalid IP address that cannot be repaired. I have tried disabling ZA on Host computer, but client still will not connect. Client computer has Windows firewall on, btw. It is not an adapter problem on the client, since I can connect to the internet using an unprotected wireless network. The client computer does…

I'm wondering if anybody else is seeing this... I get anywhere from 0-3 generic host process errors on bootup. Event log looks like this: Event Type: Error Event Source: Application Error Event Category: (100) Event ID: 1000 Date: 7/13/2008 Time: 1:32:30 PM User: N/A Computer: AVENGER Description: Faulting application , version 0.0.0.0, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000. Probably related is the three networking services that are always not running shortly thereafter... Computer Browser, Workstaiton and Server. I can start them up with no problem and they're all set to automatic. First pc is a brand new Del…

FYI: HP sucks. avoid their MFP products at all costs if you're running any type of Vista! i don't know what their problem is, but they simply cant get their drivers right. these are my symptoms: 1. all of the scanners uninstall by themselves inexplicably. 2. HP Solution Center (hpqscnw...exe) crashes 95% of the time 3. all other scanning software, like MS Office document scanner, can't use the TWAIN device or will get the same error. 4. when it doesn't crash, i often get "...can't scan. device is in use by another device..." (or something to that effect) when it isn't. Heres what i had gone through trying to get a good functioning MFP and i st…

  12. The Read-only Domain Controller is one of the new and most existing features of Windows Server 2008. So is Server Core. Combining these two features opens up a whole new world of possibilities for your Active Directory environment. Server Core Domain Controllers are the high-performance low-maintenance brothers of Domain Controllers running on full installations of Windows Server 2008. I've already showed you a long time ago how to install Server Core Domain Controllers. (the post that started the Server Core frenzy on my blog over a year ago) Now I feel it's time to show you how to add Server Core Read-only Domain Controllers to your existing Windows Server 2008 domain…

When Windows Update tries to install Office SP1 Update on my Vista system I get a message which says ... "Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart automatically in one minute. Please save your work now." There is no other failure indication. After the auto reboot the power off button shows the indicator that changes will be applied during power off - and if I go through another reboot cycle this clears - but windows update still says I need to install the Office SP1 Update. The install log shows Install failed with error 80070643 - but I notice that this is not from the latest install attempt since I have tried several times but …

I happened to look in the Windows\System directory and noticed it was full of old drivers, probably for legacy purposes. Then there's setup.inf, which happens to be the inf file for, yes, Windows 3.1. It even includes info for Win 3.1 to install on 286 and 386 systems. Talk about legacy. This is an XP file dating from the original 2001 release. Interesting!

I want debug a client-side ECMAscript (Javascript in Mozilla, and JScript in IE) on IE7 running Vista. When getting the "Do you want to debug this script", the Microsoft Script Editor reports the alert "Cannot create Application Data Folder." This is true even when IE7 is being run as administrator and even though the user account is already in the administrator class. Any ideas on how to get script debugging working in Vista?

Was instructed to restart the system. I restarted the system and a blue screen with an error message flashed for a second and the system moved the DOS screen (for 30 seconds) that normally allows the user to move into Safe Mode, Last Good configuration, etc. Was not allowed to move the cursor with arrows and then it continuously moves to attempt to normal start-up and then returns to the same process, over and over. Please help John in Guthrie, OK

I use Norton antivirus (trial) and will have AVG free when the trial runs out and just use windows firewall. Have scanned for spyware using Adaware and all is OK.
