Easy. Those who opposeopen source of any sort use data from "sales". See why that might give you the wrong number. ? While not new, it is still stupid ... yet they persist in doing it. Why ? I can only imagine that real data (like, say, number of installations or users) doesn't give them the faith they so obviously need that theirs is bigger. :)

I have several 2003 R2 servers, I have been able to upgrade the print server role on all but one of them. When I hit the link to upgrade the role, windows goes through it paces and loads the components and then I am back to the server management screen. with no change. I have rebooted, with no change as well. I have tried to run the print management mmc and that will not launch. The other were successful and I was able to deploy printers fine (Yes I have updated the schema). Any ideas on why this one server is being stubborn? Thanks Ward

Hello group, about half the time when i start my computer up, the screen after the Dell logo appears split into 4 windows. Thats right, 4 seperate screens in 1. Doesn't seem to matter if it hibernates or is shutdown. I already tried 2 newer drivers, one from dells website and a really new one from ATI thats not dell approved. Same thing happened. Could it be the LCD monitor and the digital input connection? Is there a problem with the ATI driver that anyone knows about? Its a e52dell with 5000x2 proc and 4g memory. Please respond to kwj2112-shop@yahoo.com since i cant see my posts for some reason, Thanks in advance

Hi all, I'm trying to create an icon file that will scale up to the large-icon display mode on the Vista desktop but I'm not having much luck. I can create a .ico file (using Microangelo or similar) and include icons in 256x256 and 128x128 sizes, 32bit ARGB color depth, and PNG compression. They seem to work just fine inside of a folder in Vista in the sense that I can right click View->Large Icons and they correctly show the 256px image. On the desktop however it's a different story - they just stay at the 32px or 48px size, and don't grow. The only thing that increases is the size of the box that Vista draws around them. MSWord et al seem to ha…

Hi, I'm setting up a wireless camera on an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and need an ad-hoc network, this is because i have powerful amplifiers at my pc and on the aircraft. A normal wireless network needing a router would not have sufficient transmission range, as the router signal would be a weak link in the chain. Strangely, I can only access the camera over the ad-hoc network for about 30 seconds, then the connection breaks down. Everything works fine when connevcted through the router. Trying to ping the camera's IP, I get "transmit failed, error code 1231" Not quite sure what in earth to do. Please help! Adam

I followed some steps but made it simpler but just renaming the file: 1.Exit all Office programs. 2.Click *Start*, click *Run*, type regedit, and then click *OK*. 3.Locate the following registry subkey, as appropriate for the version of Word that you are running: •Word 2002: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Office\10.0\Word\Data •Word 2003: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Office\11.0\Word\Data •Word 2007: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Office\12.0\Word\Data 4.rename the file to: Olddata.reg 5.Exit Registry Editor. 6.Start Word. If Word starts and works correctly, you have resolved the problem. The problem was a damaged Word Data registr…

I have the same problem with Vista Home Premium. I asked for help and wrote out the exact error message and code(s). This has been going on since last year...and once in a while some updates will install...eventually....but I still have 24 that absolutely will NOT install. I wrote to tech support, and received an answer that told me to turn off my firewall. Well, I have turned off both the Windows and my Virus Scan firewalls, yet was only able to install 5 successfully. I also get a smaller code...87F with this 8007000B code. Also, my automatic backup isn't working anymore either. I tried to backup to a disk, but none of them took...even tho a me…

Hi, I have been experiencing a similar problem with a Windows 2003 Server which also is at Service Pack1. It was trying to backup to a NAS drive. It was always crashing out about 1.1Gb in. I had read that a network switch change could fix it so I gave that ago. However that didn't work for me. Neither did enforcing QoS and giving the server and the NAS drive Highest priority. I did a lot of searching and none of the suggested fixes worked. This included a small update KB??. It responded with "you have this installed" I resulted to taking a Ghost image of the server and then trying Service Pack 2 for Windows 2003. Rebooted. Then ran the backup again.…

I am working on xp pro sp2 in a domain environment. When I walk away from my desk I usually lock my computer by using windows key+L. When I come back and log back in, my wallpaper is gone and my screen is now a plain color. I have to manually go into display properties and click a different wallpaper then the one I want again to get it back. I am only selecting a wallpaper that comes with windows xp. I have not downloaded any special pics. This sometimes happens when my computer times out on its own and goes to the screen saver, but that is not as consistant as when I lock the pc. Any clues why this is happening??

I have a user that moved from one location to another. Changed the Home Folder in AD to point to the new share. ie: \\server1\home\user to \\server2\home\user Also changed the My Documents location on the local workstation to point to the new share. Had to remove the registry key that prevents local user from changing My Documents location. Off and on for what appears to be no clear reason, it reverts back to the old share in AD. The Profile/Home Folder just switches back to the previous server. It causes the workstation to point to the wrong place so the user can't see any files. This happens sporadically and when I switch both AD and the My D…

Hi All, I have a large collection of DivX files which when displayed in Explorer do not show any details in the "Duration" column. Similarly, no thumbnails seem to be available for DIvX files. Is there a fix for this problem? Similarly it seems to be the same for FLV files - all others display perfectly well i.e. mpg, avi, wmv. Thanks for any help. Jock
