We’ve RDP issues with Win2K3 Boxes. Some times it works and some times it’s simply not. When I try to connect RDP after few seconds it just comes right back with no warnings no errors I have spent some good time but not able to find some route cause, which can help in finding the issues. I checked and remote access is enabled and my user is allowed. No firewall No issues found in event log entries Terminal Server Manager.5.2 I don't have any error messages all it happens is RDP freezes. And I know this will work when we are ending up in rebooting the servers, which is just impossible. Please help me! Regards. Azeem

Recently we have had several instances of offline files being enabled automatically on random users desktop PC's. We have no idea how this is happening, but random users are reporting strange messages - and when I investigate I find that Offline Files are enabled. Does anyone know why offline files would be enabled automatically at random times for random users?

Some may recall the issue I had some time ago with the Calendar Gadget. Monday was the first day of the week instead of the usual Sunday, in my Spanish (Argentina) localized Vista x64. After the usual 2nd Tuesday monthly MSFT updates now Sunday - to my joy - is the first day of the week! I have checked this in other Vista installations where Sunday is also back to where it belongs. :) Carlos

I am running Ultimate on HP Blackbird. I purchased a Cavalry 500 GB external HDD 6 months ago and everything worked fine. I could do both complete pc backup and all files backup. Now, I can only do all files backup and get this error (semaphore time out) during complete pc backup. The cables are fine, and I get the error with either SATA or USB connection. Cavalry does not use a driver and relies on Vista. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate on an HP Blackbird. I purchased a 500 GB external HDD from Cavalry about 6 months ago (pre SP1) and had no problems doing either complete PC backup or backup all files. Now I can still backup all files, but cannot do a complete PC backup and get the above error code (semaphore time out). The cable is fine, and I get the error with either SATA or USB. Cavalry has no device driver for the disk and relies on Vista, and like I said, it used to work fine. A Google search shows some others have had the problem, but no solution. I burned a recovery DVD, but would like the convenience of using Complete PC Backup just i…

Please check if your AD environment has many Domain controllers. All the domain controllers need to be in Sync. To find out which domain controller is the PC connecting to, go to the command prompt and type Set to find out the logon server information. Hope this helps!!! On Windows Vista, there are two good new applications, Windows Photo Gallery and Windows Mail (not entirely new but new). But what confuses me is that there are "very" similar applications such as Windows "Live" Photo Gallery and Windows "Live" Mail. They are very, very similar but the "Live" series provides slightly more features. For example, there is "Create photo panorama" which is the sole reason why I installed it while I have Windows Photo Gallery. I don't understand why Microsoft keep both of them. Wouldn't it be much simpler and clear if Microsoft make only one version of them, then embed them on Windows Vista and let Windows XP users download freely fro…

Hi there, When I initially setup 10 laptops I created a user called Admin that has full admin rights in addition to the individual user account and two extra Power Profiles to suit our Technicians way of working. This works well with the advantage that the user can't override the power settings that seem locked by default. So far so good... However when I took a look at some of the laptops the other day I logged on as Admin briefly and also as the default Administrator to check the password on both accounts. Upon logging off (and leaving site) I got a call from a couple of Techs who, after the machine comes out of standby now have to input their passw…

I'm having a big problem in a system running XP Home SP3. In System Properties > Advanced > Performance Setting button, the first item is "Animate windows when minimizing or maximizing." I keep having to uncheck this box since it continuously rechecks itself. Oddly, when it has rechecked itself, what is supposedly the controlling setting in the Registry is still on "0" or false (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics > MinAnimate). How can this function turn itself on when the Registry setting still shows it turned off? I thought the Registry was the ultimate controller. I'm not aware of any other program that could be causing this.…
