Hi, I am having ongoing issues downloading files from various websites using either IE7 or Safari on Vista Business on a HP laptop. The download gets to around 8mb and then hangs for approx 2 minutes before the error message box pops up saying the 'Connection with the server was reset'. I use Windows Live One Care and have tried turning the firewall off, turning the firewall off in my router and even set up a second router but always get the same result. Colleagues at work can access the same files without issue on XP machines with One Care installed so as I've tried 2 browsers and 2 routers I'm thinking the issue is with my Vista set up somewhere. Any …

Hi, Is there any way to find out what page (ie. location of index.html) is being displayed when I type http://localhost into my browser window? According to the tutorial I've been using to set up IIS, I should not see anything as I have removed all contents from the c:\inetpub\wwwroot folder yet what I am seeing is a very old copy of the index.html page from when I was hosting my website on Linux, so I'm thinking that either its caching from somewhere or I am not using IIS when I type http://localhost, rather some other web service. I know that http request go through port 80, so is there a way to find out all the processes that are using port 80? Vis…

I have an Acer Aspire L3600 which came with an Acer 19"LCD monitor. The L3600 MoBo has onboard graphics identified as Intel ® G33/G31 Express chipset Family. The monitor can display at 1440 x 900 but I often want to use a Dell through KVM switch that can display at 1920 x 1200. I've downloaded the Dell drivers but am not sure if they've been properly installed. The problem I have is that the Dell regularly changes its display to 1024 x 768 if I switch between PCs. The only way it seems, of restoring 1920 x 1200 is to click on the Dell download - Dell_2408WFP_A00-00_R172933 which unzips 4 files - an .ICM .INF .CAT and a .TXT file into a C:\Dell\Driver\…

The problem noted in the subject has plagued me ever since I installed Vista SP-1. I've googled dozens of time, posted to this newsgroup and like most of hundreds of kindred souls found no solution. For what it's worth and just maybe helpful to some one out there, I finally was able to stop this beastly error from complicating my life. Here's the link: http://www.winforumz.com/vista/windows-explorer-stopped-working-ftopict21206.html The post is by "Bradford, (Msg. 10) Posted: Sat Mar 31, 2007 10:44 am." Briefly his solution was to delete the *.db files in "C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer|***.db" -- IF that is causing th…

As the title says. Its a Vaio laptop, running Vista Home premium (not sp1 yet just about to install after factory reset). Wired network. Home lan connected to the internet via speedtouch 510 4 port router. When the router is switched back on it finds an unknown wired network which has limited function ( local only, no internet). In network and sharing center only the actual network shows up, not the "unknown" one. Network discovery is set to on. Sometimes it has switched itself off but switching back on does not detect the correct network. In Network connections the correct LAN is shown and also the Wireless Network Connection which is not connecte…

Thanks for your help Guys. Armed with WinDirStat I visited my friend and ran it on his full drive. It immediately showed up the problem. My friend is not very computer wise and he unknowingly dumped the contents of a data CD into the C\. Funny, it was about the time he first noticed that his drive was full. Thanks for WinDirStat, a great little utility. Lyn. My first post. This is a WIN98 question but I suppose it could apply to XP. My friend has an old WIN98 computer that his wife uses only for her Email. The active partition is 6GB and has always been about 2GB used. Suddenly it reports that it has only a few MB free, the drive is almost full. I got…

I enabled boot logging using F8 at boot time. I am done with the logging, but I notice that the ntbtlog.txt file is still being written to. I checked boot.ini but there is no /bootlog switch. How do I disable boot logging, or is it normal for this ntbtlog.txt file to always be there? Thanks. ju.c

I am using Vista Business on a Lenovo Thinkpad laptop and experience frequent interruptions to my Internet connectivity when using Wi-Fi. I could be working and all of a sudden the connectivity drops without any warning and it again it reconnects on its own a little while later. This happens at a number of unrelated locations. Is there something I could do to tweak my settings and prevent this or is it some kind of hardware quirk?
