Hi, Normally when getting rid of startup menu items I just remove them from MSConfig, through Start/Run, but when I execute the command it is returning nothing. It looks like I do not HAVE MsConfig on this PC. I do have a MSconfig file in the C:\i386 folder, but it appears to be called msconfig._ex so I am not sure whether this file is corrupt or what. It is a Dell Windows XP Home Edition. Any idea's? Tracey

About a year and a half ago, I built an amd dual core system, and when vista came out, I installed windows xp pro 64 bit, and vista home premium 64 bit in a dual boot. Everything was fine for a long time. About a month ago I used the screen print option to capture a scrren shot in vista, and it froze up on me, and I had to use the power button to shut down. Now vista freezes up on me all the time, and I have to shut down useing the power button. The xp pro 64 bit on the dual boot works fine, so I am guessing that it is a vista problem. I now have all my parts to build an amd quad core system, but I want to make sure vista is not going to fubar on my new sy…

You can upgrade from 32 bit vista to 64 bit Vista free you just pay about $10 for them to send you the disc at this link: 'www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/compare-editions/64-bit.aspx' (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/compare-editions/64-bit.aspx) I do not think you can upgrade from 32 bit xp to 64 bit vista SIW2 -- SIW2

This may be dumb, but it has me curious. When I bought this laptop it suggested making a set of restore discs. Said to use recordable DVD's or CD's. I tried with blank DVD+RW's they would not work, someone said has to be + 0r - R only. So today I picked up a pack of the +R's was looking for a 5 pack since I just needed 3, glad I had to buy 10. I took 3 and had the computer format them, the got the same error message I got with the +RW's, saying they not blank. Finally I got one out of the pack and just put it in the drive and it worked, so made the 3 recovery discs. Then out of curiosity I tried putting some stuff on one of the 3 that would not work, they …

Hi, I've got a que of updates that won't install. I have an Acer T180 desktop with Vista Home Premium pre-loaded. Acer have told me it's a problem with update #937287 and have directed me to the MS web site regarding this. Unfortunately, the instructions all seem to relate to having the installation media available. I've tried the restore function, but no go and I'm not sure about altering the registry as, again, the instructions refer to using the installation disks. Can anyone tell me if I can still follow these instructions without having the original DVD or can someone tell me how to get rid of this in some other way? Thanks for the help. Reg…

I have a computer running XP Pro that has problems installing programs. Seems that the admin rights are no longer there, not even under the admin account. I have created a new admin account, but it has no rights either. I see that there alot of DCOM errors showing up in the event log, but can not find anything out about them. If I do try to install a new program, or even try to do Windows Updates, they all fail. They only thing that installed latelt was IE7. Once that installed, I lost my mapped drives on my network. not sure why these 2 things would go together? I tried to have a tech log into the computer from his location, and we could not do it…

As stated in the subject, I need to add the "Object" tab to Active Directory Users and Computers tool to obtain the "Canonical name of object". I have it on one PC but I need to add it to a couple more and for the life of me, I can't remember how I added the "Object" tab on that one PC :-( -- Dave http://www.claymania.com/removal-trojan-adware.html Multi-AV - http://www.pctipp.ch/downloads/dl/35905.asp

I am having exactly the same error - 0x80070002 when trying to do a file backup. It starts off ok creating a shadow copy then suddenly stops saying: The backup did not complete successfully. An error occurred. The following information might help you to resolve the error: The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002). I have been using Windows Live One Care for backups previously but have uninstalled it now. I did manage to do a file backup using Windows back up in Feb 2008 but deleted it when I started using One Care. Any ideas? Barry -- barryregan
