Hello, Can anyone please recommend any software tool(s) that could help an administrator (Windows 2003, Windows XP, and eventually Windows Vista) to quickly find answers on questions like these: (1) For a given computer, show all the resources (files, folders, registry entries, etc.) that have any permissions/restrictions specified for a given account (local or domain-level account, user or group)? (2) For a given resource and account, show all the effective permissions AND WHY EXACTLY EACH OF THESE PERMISSIONS IS WHAT IT IS? Ideally, the tool should be aware of implied permissions too (like a resource owner's implicit permission to change permissions for…

Using Win XP Pro. I would like to put all my Adobe programs into a folder in my programs area on my Start Menu. And do the same with other groups. But I can't seem to find all those programs when I go to the "start Menu" area of Explorer. Also, how can I make it so it *always* opens all programs in the Programs area of my start menu, instead of just recent programs. Thanks, chris

I have been trying the new Windows Search 4.0, and I do like it, but I have one question. In the right-hand pane, where the document preview appears, even for short (1-2 page docs), it can take a good 10 seconds to appear. This is rather slow, because the middle pane (where I see the results) don't have any "preview" or results from inside the document that allow me at the blink of an eye to see if the doc is possibly the one I'm looking for. How can I get the right-pane doc preview to appear more quickly? -- Paul MS Office Pro 2003 XP Home Dell Inspiron 1501

I'm running Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition SP1 on an HP ProLiant DL380 server with 4 GB of RAM and an array of four 72GB hard drives. About two weeks ago, our server started randomly rebooting itself with the following message: "This system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off.." etc. Shutdown initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM. The specific error mentioned is: "Windows must now restart because the service services.svc terminated unexpectedly." Sometimes, the server does not actually reboot, but the services all abort, anyway. The only change to the server, apart from regular system updates, was the installation of Office 200…

Right now if I double click the drive letter of one of my CD/DVD drives, autoplay kicks in. If I right click the drive letter, "AutoPlay" appears as the top menu item and default action. How can I change this to something else, such as "Explore" or "Open", which was the default previously? Note to the many people who copy/paste replies without bothering to read: I'm not asking how to disable autoplay itself. That IS disabled. Discs do not autoplay when inserted--only when I double click the drive letter.

Testing CreateThread() on windows XP x64 to see how it differed from windows XP 32bit. Well on the 32bit version I created about 3100 threads and then what happened what I was able create more but they just never seemed to get serviced. Now on windows XP x64 here is the surprise...I create 1562 threads successfully. After that I get a GetLastError() value of 8 out of memory. I tried moving the stack down to 4096 where somone else had a tested CreateThread result of 13000 threads on some version fo windows. But I got the same 1562. What might be up? Thanks, David

Many years ago, when I installed Windows XP Pro onto my desktop PC, I had downloaded some online desktop theme(s) and have been using it since. Now, I have a laptop with Windows XP Pro too, and I would like to have the same desktop appearance--especially the font used. I can no longer remember where or which theme I'd downloaded from previously for the desktop. Is there a way to copy and transfer the desktop theme or font over to the laptop? TIA!
