Sometimes when I wake up my computer from Standby and I'm looking at the Password Protect box, the text box that you enter your password in is completely missing. I mean the box is gone. I can still type in characters to enter my password to log on, but for some strange reason, the text box itself does not show. At first I thought it was due to an outdated video driver, but I just updated the driver and it still happens on occasion. Anyone know why this could be happening?

Hi there I hope someone working on our helpdesk in the IT department that need to manage all the backups for regional offices. Some of the offices are small and only have one Windows 2003 server that will act as a DC/Fileserver/Exchange server. We use NTBackup for the smaller sites. I need to give this user access to manage the backups without giving him too much permission. He is a member of the account operators/backup operators and server operators. If he tries to manage media in the removable storage area in Device Manager we will just get an access denied. Can someone please help so that I can grant this user enough permission to manage all back…

Hi, I have an NT server that I want to virtualize. It has a disk that shows as local, but it is mapped from a share on another drive. Does anyone know how to unmap this drive. I have other mapped network drives, but they do not look like this one, they look like normal networked drives. I can send you a screen shot if this doesn't make sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I notice that I seems to have a similar problem as encountered by one of the users, Carl. All along, I haven't had any problem logging on to other users in the same computer, until recently. I tried to logon onto other users, I keep receiving this error message 'Windows are unable to load your profile. Pls check that you are connected to the network. Add. details: insufficient resources exist to complete the requested service'. What does the above error means? Is there any other way to resolve this issue rather then create a new user and copy the files from the old users to the new user?

I'm using Mandatory profiles on PC's in one of my labs on Server 2003 network. The profiles load very slow and I can't figure out why. I don't see anything abnormal in the event view and was curious of other ways to do some logging. When I log on, the "Loading your personal settings" is very quick < 5 seconds "Applying your personal setting" is the slow part >60 seconds Logging off also takes significant time also. "Logging off" >40 seconds "Saving settings" <5 seconds The reason I believe this isn't normal is because I have other PC's in another lab that are much quicker, but were ghosted from a different image. They load much …

I'm having trouble with wingrub. The problem is that it won't load menu.lst Here is setup: SATA drive= NTFS Windows on C: IDE drive= Solaris with its grub on MBR the problem might be caused by strange thing that after loading windows, SATA drive becomes (hd1,0) but in grub its (hd0,0) so grub is trying to load menu.lst from solaris, but I cannot change that in windows.. if I try: grubinstall -d (hd0,0) -1 c:/boot/stage1 -2 c:/boot/stage2 -m c:/boot/ menu.lst it says that hd0 is not NTFS or FAT (because its Solaris) please help me solve this..

Hello - I upgraded my WindowsXP Pro installation to Windows Vista Ultimate. There are a few things that don't appear to function properly and the one that is most annoying is simply this...any icon on the start menu panel will not launch. I check the properties and consistently find that they match identically to any shortcut I put on the desktop (these will all launch properly). More over, if I right click one of the icons pinned to the start menu and select 'put into quicklaunch', once there, they start properly as well?! Why is this happening and how do I fix it? Anyone know? Tia Randy Volters

Hi all. I have a windows 2000 server with sp4. It is my sql production server used by my company. SQL service use up 1.3GB++ ram base on my check on task manager. Services.exe use up about 400+MB ram which i find it unusual. My users are complaining their applications which connect to my sql server is very slow. I suspect it is caused by high mem utilization as free memory available can go as low as 10MB. I have checked the internet and have installed debug diagnostic tool on my server but do not know how to use it to check if there is something wrong with services.exe. Pls advise how i can use this tool or if there are better alternatives. Thks in advance…

Hi all, VSITA Home Premium, 2GB, Dual Intel 4300, 1.8GHZ, 1000+ GB Recently booting took 5 minutes. Running Boot Logging in the nbtlog.txt I discovered hundreds of "Did not load drivers" over and over again. Someone hinted to set in MSCONFIG | tab Computer startup | "Advanced Startup" > Processors to: 2 and > "Max Memory" to: 2GB. PCI, Detect HAL, Error detect: ALL set to OFF. Since boot is down to 2'30" which is better but not impressive. Between the INTEL logo and black/white bootscreen it seems to be sitting doing nothing. Then after 2' the VISTA curtain opens and after some 20 seconds I see my Desktop appear. In bootlog however I still fi…
