I am getting some events in the Application event log, and some searching leads me to the File Replication Service. I am running Windows XP Pro, with SP3, and I don't even HAVE the File Replication Service. Is this normal? The service doesn't exist. I don't NEED the FRS on my XP Pro system, if that matters. It's not normally logged in to a domain, either. (Occasionally it is, but usually not.) The events are 1085 from Userenv, and 1202 from SceCli, with 0x5 Access Is Denied. I'm mostly wondering about the lack of the FRS, since the troubleshooting steps for the 1202 and the 1085 want me to look at the NTFRS key in the Registry (which is not th…

This has happened again. It was not resolved the last time so I just hid the update and forgot about it. Now it appears that the update has been updated so I try again. Automatic Update will not download and install this. It goes immediatelly to 11% downloaded then to failure. I tried a manual download and it will not install. I tried stopping windows update, clearing the 2 folders (Datastore and download) suggested by a previous post and restarting wondows update. Then I tried again and the same resukts with this update. Why wont it work and what can I try next other than hiding the update ? If I dont use windows mail how important is it. Thank…

However, 50 percent of the respondents said there was a lack of demand for such loans and 40 percent said there was a limited number of mortgage applicants at their bank who meet the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac underwriting criteria for conforming jumbo loans, which require better credit scores and higher down payments. The Fed survey also revealed that both domestic and foreign banks expected to continue tightening standards on most loans through the end of 2008 and into 2009. "We think the Fed might have to be tightening by the end of this year, so higher interest rates coupled with higher credit standards is not a pretty picture," said Kim Rupert, managing…

Hello, ...Or atleast it stopped working approximately at the same time SEP was installed. No other config changes were made to that particular client or DHCP server so I suppose this failure is because of SEP installation. Details are below. Please note that Sep=Symantec Endpoint Protection Client v11. I push installed SEP client to about 40 XP desktops and all went well. Also push installed it to 1 XP laptop (Dell optiplex D830) with Kerio personall firewall enabled over night. After this, the following day, the laptop user reported that network is not working. Ok, I checked the laptop to find out that it cannot aquire IP address from DHCP server.…

The IE Cumulative Security Update for August 2008 is now available via Windows Update. Alternatively, you can receive this and all other Microsoft updates via the new Microsoft Update. I encourage you to upgrade to Microsoft Update if you haven’t already to ensure that you receive the latest updates for all Microsoft products. The security update addresses these vulnerabilities by modifying the way that Internet Explorer handles the error resulting in the exploitable condition. For detailed information on the contents of this update, please see the following documentation: [*]Microsoft Security Bull…

Been having a problem with the standard Vista screensaver for a few weeks. I can only 'exit' it by ctl-alt-del key combination then cancel. When I try to exit using the mouse, touchpad ,or a key it seems to lock on the current picture. Not a huge problem but somewhat frustrating so any help appreciated. Cheers.

Hello, I hope someone would be able to help me restoring a backup. It is a little different than any previous threads I could find. My laptop HDD started to slow down due to overheating. I was able to run a backup, although it took several hours to complete. Shortly afterwards my HDD failed and I replaced it with a new one. After reinstalling Vista and my other programs, I tried to locate the last backup on an external hard drive. I can see the backup and it appears to be the correct size and content, but when I try to restore it, I can only see two other backups done about three months earlier. When I try to restore the most current backup, it gives me an error …
