I have a Web Server and an SQL server both running under Windows 2003. I want to connect to the SQL Server database from the websites on the Web Server. There is a private LAN between the two servers. They are not on the same work group but I can access shared folders across the LAN using the syntax '\\\' in the Explore address. (The servers are hired from a remote Host supplier and this is the way that I have to communicate between servers). To test this, I have set up on both servers a shared folder with Everyone permissions set to 'Allow full control'. Both the servers have the Windows Firewall active. The Web Server has a Security Policy s…

My school district has same setup and problems as you. Started happening after we installed NetOps on our labs and removed Altiris Vision 5.0 (curious if you have similar applications running.) We have multiple labs, at multiple school sites on multiple hardware having the same explorer error as what is listed here. Some labs have SP2 and couple have SP3 (but both have same issue, so I don't think it's Service Pack related) Think it may be NetOps on my lab that messed it up, and we also run Deep Freeze on all these PC's to prevent changes by the students. What we've noticed so far is that if you login and manually run explorer.exe then logoff or reboo…

Hi, Vista Enterprise SP1. Copying files into a web folder gives an error. The error is: 0X8007003A The specified server cannot perform the requested operation. You can click Try Again and then it says the file already exists do you want to Copy and Replace etc. If you select Copy and Replace the file copies correctly. If you cancel the file has been created but shows 0kb, and if that's a word document you just have an empty document. I have read that there are issues with Vista and web-folders and i did apply a patch Webfldrs-KB907306-ENU.exe that was supposed to solve some issues. However it didn't solve this one. Thanks -- ally123 --------------…

Hello, We are having problems with Sync Center on a Vista Business Tablet PC. Problem: Selecting the network files to be "Available Offline" works fine. The files are cached, and can be worked on with the tablet PC when disconnected from network. The problem occurs when the Tablet is returned to the network.... If you try to Sync from Sync Center it fails with a very generic set of errors. "Sync failed with offline files" and secondly, "an internal error occured" If however, you browse through explorer to the Network files you can individually sync each one. (Unfortunately you must do this folder by folder.) The other odd note is that in t…

Hi All, This is a bit off-topic but may be of interest to some people. I have just found a website that looks interesting. It lets companies register their products for beta testing, and testers specify what sort of products that they would like to test. Sort of a beta testing dating service - Membership is free. It look like it is just starting out, but is a promising concept. Betatestnow.com Cheers Mike

The file types of media files on my PC have got mixed up. Most media files on my PC now have the Winamp filetype as their icon in Windows Explorer, even though they do not open in Winamp when you double click on them by default. In addition, in the 'File Type' section of Explorer, all of these files are listed as 'Winamp Media File', even though they are associated with other programs, such as WMP9 and flvPlayer. How can I put this right? Thanks

I have around 8 windows 2003 servers and want to monitor the CPU usage, processes and free disk space on all servers. Is there any way to monitor the same without going for a third party tool. Since we always want to be in safe with microsoft certified products. Also, we want to know, if any tool that is certified by microsoft. Thanks Shanthi

everytime i open a window, while exiting out of that window that screen will lock up. you can open a new window but that window remains blank and if you try to close it again it brings up the "non responding" window and eventually it will close but then brings up the "send" "dont send" error message to try and find a fix. i have read this is a spyware issue and have run adware multiple times and have norton 360 running but brings up nothing. can anyone advise on this situation or a fix for this issue. running windows xp service pack 2 thanks

I have a dell laptop running XP sp3 it has a touchpad and I had a USB mouse connected. the cursor sometimes took on a mind of its own and starts drifting across the screen. At first I thought it was the mouse moving on the desk. when it didn't want to stop I unplugged the mouse and it kept going. I can't tell if it is an issue with the pad or s/w. and I don't know where to start looking. has anyone run into something like this? thx
