Thanks, Alex. What I had was a shortcut called My Recent Documents, which was a shortcut to the Recent folder which is a hidden folder. But I was able to find the Recent folder and then set the Desktop.ini folder inside it back to "hidden". Your telling me that Desktop.ini was where it belonged was a big help. *TimDaniels* Alex Levi wrote: >When you change folder settings (icon, make it read only ...) this file >Desktop.ini will appear. I am developing a specialised system which uses a satellite phone for internet access. The phone itself is buggy and does strange things, and the satellite connection is even less reliable, dropping the connection after a few minutes on average. I am finding that the built-in Windows dialler is not really suitable. It doesn't properly detect that the connection has been dropped, and gets itself confused if the connection has not been dropped but the application is asking for data, and I sometimes get what looks like multiple instances of the dialler, and then nothing works at all. Also the satellite provider occassionally fails to complete the DHCP proces…

So I had a IE issue on my laptop. It was home premium version of vista. I installed ultimate. I used bitlocker, which creates a 5GB partition. I had to do a factory restore on the laptop and install all my apps and SP's. So now I am back with Vista Ultimate SP1. Now, I want to enable bit locker again, however, will bit locker see this small partition that is on my disk and use it or will it create a new partition? I hope it can use the one it created before. Thanks, Blake

Hello, I develop some programs with Access 2003 and I deploy them like any other program. However, instead of deploying, among others, an executable main file I have to deploy a mde compiled acess file - Access works like this! I expect that users run this mde file. So, I deploy the mde to c:\program files\my program folder. Again, like any other program. After reading some literature related with Windows Vista I notice some lines about more and more restrictions in updating files inside the program files folder (for security reasons). Taking in account that a mde file is also an Access database, where we can put data (e.g. temporary data) we are updating …

Hello, I usually deploy a package composed, among others, by a mde file (Compiled Access File). The installation process is done with a msi file. So far so good! However, sometimes, I need to update my program several times a day and, to be simpler, I deploy to clients an exe file that just replace the mde file. This can break some windows installation rules, but that’s enough! Now, I’m doing this in four computers with Vista. Two of them are ok. In the other two, my exe file apparently replaces the mde, but when the final user run’s it, he didn’t get the last version that goes inside the exe file. He gets the same previous version. I have given f…

I have used both Cyberlink Power DVD v7 and VLC Media Player v 0.8.6i under Vista Home Premium SP3 on one box and the same players on another box with XP Pro SP2. The results are approximately the same. With the VLC Player I have changed the output module to every selection on the menu: DirectX, Open GL, etc. Both systems have 2GB of RAM, The Vista system has an AMD 5000 64x dual processor and built in 6200 graphics. The XP system has an Intel 2180 cpu and 8600GTS graphics. Some movies play full length, others will freeze after about 25 minutes. Restarting the player does not help nor does rebooting the box. Any idea what the problem might be a…

Aloha all. A year ago I bought Dell desktop with Vista. I wiped the drive and put XP on. Now I'm ready to re-install the original OS again. However, my system is chock full of programs and data. I can save all the data, no problem, but I have hundreds of programs on the system drive. Is there any way to install Vista without losing everything? Thanks.
