When I install Win 2008 Enterprise and then navigate to (Administrative Tools-Data Sources (ODBC)-Drivers.) There is a list of about 8-12 drivers listed. When I install Win 2008 Standard and navigate to the same location, the only driver listed is SQL Server. How do I get the rest of the drivers to be available? Thanks -- ccoates

Hi, and thanks. The big picture is that i'm attempting to set up Wireless (802.1x) Authentication. I have a Windows Server 2008 Standard (non DC) operating as the Enterprise CA. I've created a new certificate template. In the CA when I attempt to add a New Certificate Template to Issue the newly created certificate is not shown in the Enable Certificate Templates list. I've set Read, Enroll and Autoenroll permissions on the certificate for authenticated users, domain computers, and RAS and IAS servers. I know that Windows Server 2003 requires Enterprise or Datacenter edition, is that also a requirement for Windows Server 2008? Any help would be …

Hi all, After typing c:\ in the search box, various dead user files appear, but when i press "Enter" it says that the file can't be found. Also, there is no right click facility to be able to delete them. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers, Phil. -- saxplayerphil

In my case I'm having the error 0x80070643 but it is relating to two different updates that just won't install. One comes back in the error log as: Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070643: Security Update for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (KB948109). The other comes back :The IIS Admin service terminated with the following error: The data is invalid. and The server {A9E69610-B80D-11D0-B9B9-00A0C 922E750} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout. Sometimes I would like to run a search with a do not include option, as in search search the drive except for folder-x, folder-y, and folder-z. A varation of this would be to not include certain similiar file names or extensions. Is there a way to do this? -- Richard

My taskbar keeps getting caught behind my windows. So I have to go into taskbar properties, check and uncheck "keep the taskbar on top of other windows", then hit apply. What is causing this and what do I do to fix it for good?

What could make a service on a Windows Server 2003 create a 0-sized (ie empty) <processname>.<pid>.mdmp file on exit. On another system (both are Win Server 2k SP2) this does not happen. It happens when the process exits cleanly itself or if it is stopped using the windows service management console. I had a look at patch differences between both systems and nothing seems to be related to those empty .mdmp files. The service runs fine in any other respect, it's just these files being generated whenever it is stopped. Any hints could be appreciated

Anyway, we got that resolved, however, now it appears after I add a new user via C/P User Accounts, the new account name does not appear in Explorer, event after logging off and/or rebooting. Go to windows explorer,,,, (right click on start) Go to C: folder and click on users click on public and look for the desktop folder (if its not visible under public, go to tool, folder options, and view) select show hidden files/folders Then you should see C:\Public\Desktop and any Icons in it.... I did this, but I didn't see any ICONS... Since there was nothing in the folder, I Deleted it and the ANNOYING Icons disappeared... THen I recreated the folder to ensure I didn't mess up some other file/reference -- Slightlyevil

When setting up a standalone CA on Server 2003 Standard you can select the LDAP CRL publish location but since it is not an Enterprise CA does it still publish the CRL into Active directory? Reason I ask is I created a Root CA standlone on a Server 2003 standard domain member. Then created a standalone subordinate on Server 2003 standard domain member and it complained about not being able to check the CRL when I grabed the cert from the Root. I understood this meant either the CRL isnt publihsed or not reachable. Any ideas?
