I have Vista Home Basic on my laptop, which, aside from somewhat slow lately, has been running fine. Within the last month or two i purchased a second monitor, hooked it up, and it worked perfectly, i had the screen extended to the right. Then, for reasons involving the amount of space on my desk, I moved the external monitor to the left and changed the configuration for it, which again, worked fine up until yesterday. Now, whenever i turn my laptop on, or close it, then open it again later the old settings come back, and the screen is configured for the right instead of the left, so now, every time i start up my laptop, i have to change the external monitor's s…

It’s been just over five months since the MIX08 conference and IE8 Beta 1. One of the things I remain committed to is the furthering of web standards through a comprehensive test suite for each standard. This is necessary to eliminate ambiguities or differences that cause implementation differences between user agents (aka browsers). Those differences create frustration for web developers who are just trying to build web sites that interoperate. The IE team has been actively working on Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2. In parallel with the CSS 2.1 implementation in the upcoming beta, the IE Test team has been developing test cases against the CSS 2.1 specification. Today w…

After reading many MS KB's on the subject of security I am lost when it comes to editing "ESCDomains" in Regedit. I can delete unwanted "domains" one at a time, but there are too many (perhaps thousands). Is there a way to hold down Shift to highlight more than one at a time, or is there a better way to delete in bulk? Many thanks! -- Rusty

Hi I'm having a HTPC running Vista Ulltimate (SP1). At some point, very possible after installing the lastest Vista updates, I have started getting boot issues. What happens is that if I shut down (S3 standby) the computer with the remote and then turn it back on again everything works fine. However, it seems as if the computer is in standby during the night or over a longer periode of time, something happends... The remote control stops responding so that it is not possible to turn the PC on using the remote. If I use the on button on the PC, Vista start up with the "Vista failed to boot screen" letting me select safe mode and so on. I select "Norm…

Pegasus, That didnt work for me. We have TS 2000 and want to do the same thing as Zeno did. I manually changed the language settings for some profiles so the language icon appears on the taskbar and the user can switch to another language. Isnt there a way to propogate this setting to all users. The language options in XP lets you apply this kind of change to all users and the default user profile. Any ideas? Hi all, I have an app that I need to run as a service. I used SRVANY and INSTSRV to accomplish this in the test XP Pro computer however, I am having problems doing this on a Win 2003 Server (not SBS) SP1 computer. When I start the service nothing happens, no log is created. I then tried running the Calculator applet as a service and got same results. FYI: I did the same with XP Pro and Calculator started just fine. I had a look around and found articles such as: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/q152/4/60.asp&NoWebContent=1 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/137890/EN-US/ http://support.…
