All the sudden I get this message when trying to right click and drag a file to a directory on our network: Do you want to move or copy files from this zone? And it has the words Internet Explorer in the upper left hand corner of the dialouge box. Typically when I right click and drag a file to a directory, it gives me the option to copy or cut and so forth...And this is only happening on network drives. It works normally on my local drive. Did I set something that is causing this now? I've rebooted the machine. I'm running XP Pro SP3. I installed SP3 a couple of weeks ago and didn't have this problem then. Just started today. Thanks, Greg

Hi With XP, and I THINK when first using Vista, when I downloaded files I used to be prompted through a dialogue box for where I wanted to download to. I would usually choose C:\forcopy, and that would be there in the dialogue as the default, unless I had changed it the last time, in which case the last used location would be there as the default - BUT, I was ALWAYS asked. Now however, I don't get asked - when I want to download something, I'm not asked it just goes to the "downloads" folder in my user folders. In my registry, the Internet Explorer folder has (Default) REG_SZ (value not set) Download directory REG_SZ (C:\forcopy) How can I get…

Hi, Vista Business with SP1 Brand New Dell Latitude D531 with Dual Core Turion CPU and 4GB RAM Computer domain client under Win2003SP2 R2 domain controllers When opening the home folder in Explorer a few of its folders display immediately but folders with many subfolders or files takes several seconds to open and display. This is very annoying and it does not seem that Vista caches this information as it takes the equal amount of time when I do the same operation seconds later. XP does this immediately for the same user account. We have applied all the 'well known' netsh settings suggested as cures, but to no avail. Note that we are already runni…

am trying to install some new software, but I get the following error in the middle of the installation: Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Installer Returned an Error. Error 1601. This is during the point where the software tries to install this program. I tried to install on another computer and it worked fine. However, I need this on my main computer. Anybody have any insight as to what's going on and how I fix it? Thanks in advance! Sometime on another forumtold me to try the following which did not work. Can anyone help? If I check the same file using "sigverif" ieframe.dll is signed. Please can any tell me what might be the reason for the above. I am trying to implement the SIgnedCode class in VC++ (MFC or Win32) I did not get any information on this in the web. Please can any suggest me how to proceed. Thanks, Manjunath.M

Hi I have found an article in the past that explained the difference between a User initiated shutdown and a System initiated shutdown. Many of the repsonses to similar questions about "no rdp after reboot" mention the use of shutdown.exe, and this is indeed the fix offered by the KB/Q article I am looking for. However, I would like to be able to qoute the article number in some documentation for some procedures I am putting together. I have searched high and low but I am now requesting your help...who ever might come along. 930045 is not what I am after as it suggests a hanging server and that's not what I get. Hi community, I've a problem with a special configuration. Vista Ultimate, cygwin sshd installed SSH tunnel (configured to forward RDP port 3389) and Remote Desktop (through tunnel) are working as long as the Windows Firewall is turned off. If I switch it on the SSH tunnel collapses as soon as the Remote Desktop session is established. So, SSH alone is working with an active Firewall. RDP is working with active firewall. Together they are not working  SSHD error log (highest debug level) shows "write failed", but nothing more. Windows Firewall log shows nothing interesting either. Anybody with a hint out there? greetings, CyberMCM -- …

Hi, I have a USB RNDIS network device, which when connected to windows machine shows a network connection. The windows RNDIS driver queries OID_GEN_LINK_SPEED from device, what speed shall device return? I am asking this question because:- My device is a high speed device which means link speed is 480 Mbps. But since my device implements BULK endpoint, the bandwidth allocated to it will be 10% i.e Maximum 48 Mbps. Now If I say the speed is 480 Mbps what will windows use it for? Will the data transfers from window happen at speed of 480 Mbps or this OID property is just to show the link speed in network connection status window. If windows use this va…
