While removing rootkit from the server yesterday server closed with Dcom service crashed and server shutdown in 60 second. Server boots normally and works normally but we can not open any property page of any services or event log. Can not start or stop services from service console. We have used “unhackme†to remove rootkit. In the task manager no user name appears. Any help will be appriciated. Thanks,

I have a client which has been working fine for 3-4 years, w2k server SP4 and WXP SP3 shared user folder on server mapped to user and set to enable offline. They had to replace the laptop and now whenever she creates a file in the offline folder (only when offline) it (the new file) is unable to syncronize back to the server says access denied for the creation of the file on the server. I have turned off and back on the offline settings and I have fooled with security a little to relax it but no good. I can't figure this out, I have read many simular frustrated users online with no answer. Does any body know how to solve this one? RobertO

I am having a problem with some users logging into server 2003 from a remote desktop. I have had 2 users try to login and they just get a black screen. If they login at the server it works or if I login at their desktop I can login and get the remote desktop. I have checked the RDP settings and checked the accounts at the server. If I make them a new server login it works. I am using this workaround for now. Thanks for any help.

I have a few gadgets on my desktop. The gadgets are not docked to the sidebar, and the sidebar itself is not visible (by choice). I keep the gadgets down the right hand side of the screen. There are two users of the PC. When switching to the second user, doing some work, then logging off that second user and logging back to the first user (still logged on), I find the gadgets have moved about a 3rd of the way in from the right hand side of the screen. I don't understand why this happens or if there is a way to prevent it. The second user has exactly the same desktop resolution and colour depth, and their gadgets always appear where they were last left.…

I have bought 5 new 2008 servers to replace my 2003 servers. I installed a USR external modem and enabled Dialup networking Route & Remote access. All went well, no errors, Routing & remote access for dialup running ok. Modem shows ok, did a test dial out, OK. Modems will not answer on any of the 5 servers, AA light blinks but thats it. Is there something new in 2008 server I am missing, just to get the modem to answer? I'll worry about authentication later.. I had no problems with this on 2003 servers / same modems. I even tried a diff modem on one. Thanks BUC

Maybe it's time to replace it. Try unplugging from the usb port while the computer is on and plug it into a different usb port. Windows should recognize it and install a driver. You can also try upgrading or reinstalling your Intellitype software. It's available at the MS Keyboard and Mouse site. one of my server which was running Windows 2003 Server w/ Sp2 crashed due to hard drive problem. The server had a 120gig HD which was partition into two. 1st partition was 30gig which was Windows installed and 2nd partition was unallocated. After rebooting with Windows 2003 CD and went into recovery, I cannot see the directory listing when issuing "dir". I get an error about an error occurred during directory enumeration. I ran chkdsk /p and it indicates another error. What I found out was there is NO free space available on the 1st partition. When I ran Windows 2003 setup, it does see the partition but it indicates it is in "raw" filesystem. I download…

my vista clock would lose proper time several times every day until i found the perfect fix for my computer. first, remove the automatic online timing for your clock. then use the windows sidebar (NOT THE GOOGLE SIDEBAR, because the clock doesn't work) and add the clock. set the clock on the proper time zone and select the second hand option.

Using Vista Home Prem 32Bit... I have Windows Update set to "Download Updates but let me choose whether to install them" Today, 8/22/08...I see in Windows Update History that the following "Important" Update was sucessfully installed on my PC: "Windows Update Agent 7.2.6001.784" I certianly did not initiate the Install. So why would this Update be Installed without any action on my Part? I thought the purpose of setting update as I have was always to prompt me that new Updates were available and let me select if I want to install them.

Did you ever get any resolution to this question? The only solution I found was going back to a Classic view it the start menu. I really do not like the classic view, however, I am constantly connecting to different customers and I find Vista's current setup slow and cumbersome. We have about 300 users who are using windows profiles. All of the accounts are working except 2 users. When these two log in in creates their files under the documents and settings, but their desktop and favorites are empty. In another place on the c drive it creates these exact same 2 files with the data in them. Their desktop and favorites are copied to the server ok. We have checked security and delete their accounts in active directory and recreated them and it still happens. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. thanks al

Hi, I have two NICs in my Windows XP box, one wireless. I would like to have each attached to a different network and then specify traffic uses which NIC. For example, I want all SSH traffic traffic to go on NIC 1 and all web surfing traffic to go on NIC 2. Is there a way to do this in Windows XP? Thanks. Kevin

You should change the drive letter in disk management.. Right click on my computer-->manage-->disk management, locate your disk and change its drive letter. Hi, There is a legacy application that runs fine from Win 98 SE up till Win 2003 Server. The application makes connectivity to an HTTPS URL. When the app is to use proxy server for its connectivity, the application crashes in Win 2K3 SP2 Server and the same works for other operating systems (even in Win 2K3 Server without SP1 or SP2).
