Is it possible to upgrade a Windows 2000 SP4 Chinese to Windows 2003 English Domain? Could I just run adprep, move over my FSMO's and be done? We use Static IP DNS only hits our Domain controllers. Feels too easy. Please let me know what you think

    >We're always here to laugh and cry. >*TimDaniels* Thank you Tim - but your reward is I'm back :-) Got all tangled up trying to get Users Names to agree with those listed in Explorer. Lost a lot of friends on that one. Anyway, we got that resolved, however, now it appears after I add a new user via C/P User Accounts, the new account name does not appear in Explorer, event after logging off and/or rebooting. Any suggestions on how to make a new User Account appear correctly as a Folder in Explorer? WinXp SP2 and not on a domain. Dave

Go to windows explorer,,,, (right click on start) Go to C: folder and click on users click on public and look for the desktop folder (if its not visible under public, go to tool, folder options, and view) select show hidden files/folders Then you should see C:\Public\Desktop and any Icons in it.... I did this, but I didn't see any ICONS... Since there was nothing in the folder, I Deleted it and the ANNOYING Icons disappeared... THen I recreated the folder to ensure I didn't mess up some other file/reference -- Slightlyevil

When setting up a standalone CA on Server 2003 Standard you can select the LDAP CRL publish location but since it is not an Enterprise CA does it still publish the CRL into Active directory? Reason I ask is I created a Root CA standlone on a Server 2003 standard domain member. Then created a standalone subordinate on Server 2003 standard domain member and it complained about not being able to check the CRL when I grabed the cert from the Root. I understood this meant either the CRL isnt publihsed or not reachable. Any ideas?

I am here to tell you how to upgrade to IE8 Beta 2. IE8 Beta 2 system requirements are the same as IE8 Beta 1 and it’s currently available in English, Chinese Simplified, German and Japanese. Stay tuned for more localized IE8 Beta 2 versions to be available shortly. Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 Getting Ready Before you start IE8 Beta 2 installation, there are a couple of things to keep in mind: [*]Uninstalling IE8 Beta 1 If you have Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 installed, the IE8 installer will automatically uninstall any earlier versions and then install the latest version of IE8 Beta2 for you. You will be prompted to reboot twice. The first reboot is t…

At the start of the Internet Explorer 8 project we made a commitment to great website compatibility. It’s worth noting that this commitment hasn’t changed, even given the short-term impact of our announcement to better align with Microsoft’s interoperability principles. In other words, compatibility has been and continues to be a very important part of the Internet Explorer 8 feature set. With Beta 2 we’re announcing a brand new feature known as Compatibility View. In a nutshell, Compatibility View allows content designed for older web browsers to still work well in Internet Explorer 8. Compatibility View and End Users When a web site says that it suppor…

We’re excited to release IE8 Beta 2 today for public download. You can find it at http://www.microsoft.com/ie8. Please try it out! In addition to English, IE8 Beta 2 is available in Japanese, Chinese (Simplified), and German. Additional languages will be available soon. While Beta 1 was for developers, we think that anyone who browses or works on the web will enjoy IE8 Beta 2. Hi all this may be really basic but my team and i are totally stumped.. (Im posting here first but it could be an XL issue as it appears thus far only to affect XL docs..) Users are randomly experiencing the message on their own documents when attempting a rename or delete. "Cannot delete file: It is being used by another person or program." Normally we would just find the thread/open file and close them on the server, EXCEPT they are not listed NOR does any unlock software report them as currently in use. A reboot of the server resolves the issue but after the first rename the issue then re-occours. Domain admins and the relavent users hav…

I've built a Domain Admin User acct in my W2K8 DC (DAUser) for the purpose of installing software other than using the Domain Administrator or local administrator accts. When I use this acct to log onto a different W2K8 server (who is a member of the domain), this server does not see this acct as a DA or even an administrator acct. I've ensured the DA group is in the local administrators group. (I've even tried adding the acct DAUser directly into the local administrators group too)

When I start Internet Explorer 7 from an internet shortcut on the desktop, Windows Explorer hangs and I get a "Windows Explorer is not responding" dialog box. If I start IE from its icon and subsequently select the same desktop shortcut, everything is fine. If I change the default browser to something like Opera, the desktop shortcuts work fine. In Internet Explorer I have disabled all Add-ons and third-party browser extensions, and neither has helped . I am running Vista Ultimate 32bit. Any ideas other than breaking out the OEM disks and doing as repair installation of IE? This has been a subtle problem for awhile, so I do not have an easy restore poin…
