Hi! I am new to the forums and to Vista. I just purchased a Gateway laptop that came with Vista Home Premium 64 bit. On my old laptop (and indeed, on every laptop I've owned), if I wanted to switch from wireless to wired I just turned off the wireless card and plugged in the wire. The laptop recognized the switch, no problem. However, on my new laptop, it claims that there is a problem when I plug in the wire and turn off the wireless. It claims that there are two networks connected and I have to disconnect one. Eventually I got it to work by disconnecting all networks and then only reconnecting the wired connection. But I'm trying to figure out if I'm…

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325376/en-us?spid=3198&sid=1191 If verbose logging is not enabled, you will still receive normal status messages such as "Applying your personal settings..." or "Applying computer settings..." when you start up, shut down, log on, or log off the computer. However, if verbose logging is enabled, you will receive additional information, such as "RPCSS is starting" or "Waiting for machine group policies to finish...." ------- I changed the registry as instructed but nothing changed. I still see nothing but "applying computer settings" (for hours at a time, meaning my server is completely dead in the water)

Back in June, Dean Hachamovitch kicked off a series of blog posts explaining how the IE team approached the task of building a trustworthy browser. Trustworthiness is the foundation of Internet Explorer 8, and we’ve worked hard to deliver a product with improved security, reliability and privacy, while supporting these new features with responsible business practices that respect users’ choices. Throughout a lengthy set of blog posts this summer, my colleagues and I have detailed the investments we’ve made in each of these key areas. This post serves as a summary for readers who would like to refer back to the posts we’ve made on this topic. Trustworthy Bro…

nubee here.... I am involved with a project where Vista systems (with bitlocker enabled) are being migrated to a new AD environment. what is the best approach for escrowing password keys to new environment. unfortunately, I don't have access to exsting environment - so getting what is already in place is not an option. I read somewhere that BitLocker will not re-escrow. Is there a way the users can manually save password recovery to usb or some other network device "after" their system has been migrated to the new environment? I can't seem to find any good information on this topic, so any help is much appreciated! pat King -- simipking Pos…

*Security Issue? with Windows Audio Endpoint Builder* Hello. I was tracking down why my *svhost.exe* (used for internet & network Connections) was being used to access a whole bunch of Picture files in one of my folders. Files that were not being used by any other program or service at the time (not even the File Manager). It was running _under_LocalSystemNetworkRestricted_mode_ and i tracked the PID to the "'-Windows Audio Endpoint builder-' (http://tinyurl.com/6nbez6)" Service. I used the resource monitor to see that the WAEB was accessing numerous files in various folders. _What_stood_out_was_my_personal_pictures_it_was_accessing_. I …

I have a machine that uses a Users running at the service level and am trying to map a printer shared off of a win98 computer that is part of our 2000 level domain. The machine that the service user is running on is not part of the domain. It is fairly heavily customized and seems to be having problems keeping the mapping. I can map the printer manually no problem but it doesn't seem to want to remember the password(even though we checked the box) and I can't access the keymgr so I can't set that to remember any passwords. Any Ideas?

Hi, I am having a very odd problem with FTP. Basically, it won't work. The FTP client seems to connect but then issues an error and no files appear on the remote server. The last time I needed to use FTP was in February of this year, and it worked fine. Now, when I try it, it goes nowhere. I have tried several different FTP clients and accounts, all with the same outcome. It is not a firewall problem I run only Win XP Pro firewall and have tried it with that disabled + anything else that even MIGHT effect connections. I have tried it in Safe Mode with no success which makes me think it is not a conflict with another app - though I don't believe I have …
