It was working a few days ago, but now suddenly I don't have thumbnails for PDF's in windows explorer (vista sp1) I have all the settings correct to see them as thumbnails since I see jpgs as thumbnails for example so its not a setting in windows. I have tried to uninstall and install acrobat 9.0 again and again as administrator user of course, I have tried making it a default application for pdfs again and again.. but NO GO! there is a dll that does this thumbnail extraction called PDFShell.dll... I even tried to register is from a command line as admin ( by right clicking on the cmd in the start menu and selecting run as administrator) but I got t…

Hi, I am trying to create a new account in windows vista business. I am logged in as administrator and I go to control panel and create a new account. I then log outand log in with the new account. Vista says it is creating desktop settings, the splash screen desappears and a series of dialog boxes start. It then fails on windows mail with an error dialog saying " windows mail 7 could not be installed. MSOE.dll could not be initialized. I press OK and Vista just hangs with a completely blank screen. The new desktop never appears. I have tried this with UAC on and off,and with administrator and non administrator accounts. I ran a sfc /scannow an…

I was having trouble getting a scheduled task to run on Windows Server 2008 that was calling a .bat file to run. Specifically, I was getting a 0x1 error whenever the scheduled task ran. The solution was to type in the path to the ..bat file in the Start In(optional): in the edit action window. You get there by pressing the Edit button under the Actions tab. Here is an example path you'd type in if your .bat file is located under the temp folder at the root of drive c: c:\temp\bat I wanted to report this solution because it took me several days to discover this solution and I wanted to save someone else the trouble.

Hi!! As Admin I can check/uncheck the Protected mode option from within IE no problem. As a Domain User, the option is greyed out. not Group Policy. Running an RSOP on the local machine shows Protected mode for all zones as Disabled, yet the box is still checked and greyed out rendering our new TS useless for the moment. Any ideas? Paul.

I have webroot's spysweeper, installed on 3 pcs....and two run xp...scheduler is fine on those. but on my vista pc....it will not save a scheduled sweep of the pc. it looks like it saves it..but then when i leave that tab and go back in the schedule tab, it is gone! i spoke with webroot, and they say it is a known issue with vista's task scheduler....I verified this by running the task scheduler directly, and scheduled up some tasks, saved them...then after clicking OK..the task list refreshes, but my new tasks are not there. so it seems it is an issue with task scheduler. does anyone know the fix for this??? Thanks!

More about the IE8 Smart Address Bar Autocomplete Suggestion With Windows Search installed, IE8 makes an attempt to determine what site you’re trying to get to. The site that it determines is most likely the one you’re looking for is called the “Autcomplete Suggestion.†This entry is given the SHIFT+ENTER shortcut, so it’s very easy to go to your most recommended site. But how do we determine what’s most relevant? We use a variety of factors to determine what site yo…
