Everytime I start my computer and log on my account I am faced with a black screen except for the white mouse pointer in the screen. I can load explorer.exe back using task manager however its quite inconvenient. For any fix on this please let me know. I looked at my registry and explorer.exe is in the shell. Another problem I have is that any video on any video player will not work. I can hear the sound perfectly but no video. Examples of the players I used is DivX, Windows Media Player, Quicktime, and VLC. I'm trying to play a .AVI file but as previously stated I cannot see the video. If anyone has a solution to this please let me know. -- Jjh…

Here's an interesting scenario. I've got this issue on two XP SP3s. We got dual monitor AGP cards in both. Two LCD monitors have been working on both machine just fine until one Microsoft update later and one monitor is not working anymore on each computer. I have swapped monitors and cables with known good ones, and that is not an issue. The Display applet in Windows shows both monitors but when you click on number 2 and put a check in the box to extend your display and click Apply, the screens go blank for a second and come back with only the first display with the box unchecked. These two machines are in different buildings. Uninstalling and reinstallin…

1) **RENAME** the roaming profile on the domain controller, or wherever it is you store the roaming profiles. (dont delete or you will loose all of the data for the user) 2) have the user log in again. 3) pull all the important data from inside the old roaming profile that you renamed, My Documents, any outlook pst data, favorites, etc. This is not ideal and is in no way a fix for this error however, if you do not want to spend countless hours trying to fix before giving up anyway, just follow the above steps. -- mrtechno ------------------------------------------------------------------------ mrtechno's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member…

One of the key themes for IE8 is developer productivity. IE8 Beta 1 improved developer productivity through an optimized core scripting engine and script debugger. In this release, we continued to invest in the areas that bring more power and productivity to the web developer community. Here is a quick summary of the work that we’ve done for IE8 Beta 2: Scripting Engine Many enhancements have been done to the scripting engine. One feature that will bring a lot of value to the AJAX developers is the introduction of native JavaScript Object Notation (JSON). With JSON becoming the de-facto data interchange language for contemporary web applications we have included n…

most modern printers have card readers and they show as removable disks As I saw yours does have one http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=116&modelid=13800 "Print from compatible memory cards: The memory card slot lets you print photos direct. No computer needed!1" the card readers are made for taking the memory stick from a digital camera and inserting it in the printer to print directly OR/AND transfer files from the stick to the pc. this is totally normal. Vista is shit but lets insult it for the correct reasons ! LOL "leap frog vista" <leapfrog@vizztal.com> wrote in message news:48c6e3a0$1@…

This is driving me nuts. Terminal services keeps breaking on our servers. The error message you see from the Remote Desktop Client is, "The client could not establish a connection to the remote computer." The server is listening on port 3389 (svchost.exe). A package capture shows the TCP three-way handshake completes and then the server sends a Reset. That is. SYN (from client) SYN/ACK (from server) ACK (from client) RST (from server) Every time it happens I'm able to fix the problem by reinstalling the Terminal Services Device Redirector using the following command, but I have no idea why it keeps happening. devcon.exe -r install %windir%\inf\ma…

I have found a description of the PIF file format on http://www.wotsit.org/ but it isn't very complete. Is the PIF file format the same on Vista as on XP? Where can I find a complete description of PIFs under recent Windows? I want to recover my original _default.pif file on a Sony Vaio with some sort of weird proprietary recovery disc and recovery partition, is that possible without a complete reinstall of Vista?

I have a strange problem. In my Control Panel, I have two listings of "Add or Remove Programs". One does nothing at all when opened, the other opens, but there NO programs listed. Also, If I try to use Windows Update, it never finds Windows Site, I have to ctrl, alt, del and end the program. I ran a virus scan (Norton with the newest defs), nothing. Everything else on the internet works. What can I do to correctthis problem? I was thinking of reloading XP, but then I'd have to go through all the service pack updates, etc. and I don't know if even that will fix the problem. Has anyone ever heard of this? If it matters, I'm using IE 6.0. (I hope this isn'…
