After being able to get back to the laptop and try it, I tried to boot it in regular mode and then in safe mode and checked the event log. Here are some items from the start up. These bring up a question. Would a bad block make it do this. The "TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper" error is because a Dlink wireless device is not working in safe mode. Using winxp pro sp2, intel 2800, 2meg ram,80 gig free hard drive. Yesterday auto update tried to install sp3 and failed twice so I canceled it. Used the computer for several more hours with no problem. Turned it on a few hours ago and it loads as far as the sign in screen - choice of me or administrator. It always loaded directly into window since I never set up a password - don't need one. No matter if I hit admin or myself, it says loading settings, and about one second later, it says it's logging off and saving my settings. It then goes back to the sing in screen again. I also tried guest account. I tried the F8 and every mode listed, but it still i…

Dragging and dropping the icon to a FOLDER on my links bar creates an access denied!##%%!! I am sick of this type of security. The stupid thing is I can drag and drop it to the links bar, cut it and PASTE it into the folder. Thanks, Microsoft, for the added extra steps in the name of security. It's about my girlfriend's Vista based PC. It started displaying Cyrillic characters on some web pages and also in dialog windows of some installers just like the context menu of Winrar. The regional settings in Control Panel are correct in all respect. As of the default web browser (IE7) however, the Fonts (General Tab) are set to Cyrillic and it cannot be changed. I try to set it to Latin based but this setting cannot be saved and the setting (General>-appearance>Fonts>Language Script) remains Cyrillic whatever I do. The subtitles (Hungarian) downloaded to movies are also displayed incorrectly with Cyrillic Characters instead of Latin. Is there way…

Not sure if someone is still reading this post but i'm having the same problem. When I connect from one server to another server (2008) through RDP i get the message "the saved credentials did not work...". I already tried all options: checked remote settings on both servers but they are fine, group policy is configured correctly and is updated with "gpupdate /force". The Terminal Services Configuration is also fine and has a valid SSL certificate but I still got the stupid warning (even after a system reboot :@). The server i'm trying to connect with is named 'mainframe2' but when I entered the full FQDN in RDP (mainframe2.corp.xxxxxx.eu) the message was …

Hi all. I have a Windows2003 terminal server, joined to my domain. This machine works great for many RDP users. I recently added a new domain user configuring the option "Start the following program at logon". The user logs on the machine, but he gains access to the standard desktop, the program I configure doesn't start at logon. I tried the same configuration of some other users who work fine, I tried to start the "notepad.exe" or the "CMD.exe"... nothing. The user always experience a standard logon. The setting on the "enviroment" tab seems to be ignored. The user is "clean". No particular policies or other settings are applied. I don't think t…
