In Vista, Documents and Settings is just a junction, a virtual directory there only for backwards compatibility with older software. It's not "real" and this is why you can't do anything with it. I have had BSOD crashes which reported a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. Also, my Shadow Protect backup program would crash and never complete. I found a Microsoft KB that said to check for unsigned files, using sigverif.exe, supplied with Vista Ultimate 64. At the top of the list was rivatuner64.sys v.2.04 9/25/07. I uninstalled it and, so far, haven't had any more crashes. Further, for the first time in about two months, I have been able to run my Shadow Protect program and have it complete successfully. The KB indicated that programs are supposed to respond to OS signals when it goes into hibernate, but that some unsigned programs are not equipped t…

Hi, On Vista, C:\Documents and Settings is not actually a folder, it's a symbolic link. The folder containing the user data is C:\Users... Hi, ITNews. Documents and settings is a folder in WinXP and prior. It does not exist in Vista, except as a "Junction Point" for the benefit of legacy programs that have not been updated to work in Vista. In Vista, look in each user's Documents folder. By default, find each one in: C:\Users\\Documents Of course, you will not be able to see the folder for any user except yourself unless you furnish Administrator credentials. And it really is not necessary to cross-post to so many newsgroups. RC -- R. C. In Vista, it's not a folder. Vista uses a different file structure than XP does/did. Those familiar folder names you may be used to, like "My Documents", "Documents & Settings", etc. are not folders in Vista. They are junction points, and are used for legacy programs which were written to utilize the XP file structure. They will redirect the programs to use the equivalent Vista folders. If you keep the protected operating system files hidden, you won't see them. In Vista...... Documents & Settings -> \Users My Documents -> \Users\youraccount\Documents My Music -> \Users\youraccount\Music Application Data -> \Users\youraccount\AppData …

Ok so I have a HP Pavilion dv9000 that I just had to rebuild from my recovery partition because after I restored my system using my Windows Home Server a ton of things did not work. What's the point of having a Home Server if the backup/restore process does not work right? Anyway as you can see I am not happy. So I have my system completely rebuilt with all my software reloaded and I wanted to be able to use the Offline Files feature in it. Well when I go to right click on a folder or file so that I can make it available offline the option is not there. I looked at the Offline setting and it says it is enabled but needs to restart for it to work. I h…
