Apple came back with their own version of the MAC and PC ads as a response to the millions of dollars Microsoft started spending for the image recovery of Windows Vista. Using Windows XP Pro Backup: I have "My Documents" scheduled to backup to a network drive daily at lunch time. Sometimes when I return from lunch, the backup is waiting for a response to "insert the following media", however there is nothing to insert the system is already connected to the network. I simply click OK, and it runs. Why can't it sometimes connect? I am hard-wired to the network using a laptop in a docking station. Thanks in advance, Dorci

Hi, I use Skype and MSN Messenger for chat, and I use Windows Desktop Search (WDS) version 4 for searching. I've noticed that WDS searches MSN Messenger chat history by default, but it does not search Skype chat history. Is it possible to have WDS search my Skype chat history too? A plug-in perhaps? Regards, Peter

Hello. I have my computer set to sound a "low battery alarm", but it never sounds when the pop-up appears by the battery meter. All the other sounds work as they should, but not this one. Any idea what is wrong? Thanks in advance for your help.

In Windows Server 2008, is there a built in proxy server in which you can run RAS through? Or can RAS be configured to act as a type of proxy server that will log outbound connections? If so, HOW? Thanks!

Hi Can anyone tell me if auto updates are supplied by proxy from servers at level3.com using footprint. I decided to do a netstat command and found a connection to 207.123.34.126 that only hung around for about 1 minute just after booting. I was intrigued to find that the pid of the program connecting was windows onecare. On another vista computer I have a simular thing happened but to a slightly different ip address but still in level3.com range. This time it seemed it was not onecare pid. Both my systems are running ultimate and both are up to date and both pass onecare scans. The firewall reports nothing unusual. The port at the other end is port 80 i.…

Using XP Pro (with latest upgrades) on high end laptop connected to a docking station that has an external VGA 22" monitor connect to it. When I watch a video from a website, on the laptop screen you see what you would expect, but on the external monitor, the video will fill my external monitor screen 100%. I normally use windows meda player. In skype, for example, if on a video conference call, the laptop will be as expected but the external monitor will be to 100% sized videos rapidly flashing back and forth between each other. It's very annoying to have video in full screen because you loose your mouse and you're unable to to see the program . D…

Hi, I have an Access program that I packaged with Office Developer on my Vista Home Premium computer. This package has been installed on many different Windows platforms with no problems. Right now I have a person that when she opens the folder “myprogram†on the CD there are (among other things) the files “Setup.exe†and “SETUP.LST†as it should be. When she clicks on the setup.exe file she receives a message stating “file SETUP.LST cannot be foundâ€. Why? She has Vista Home Basic. Is this a user access issue and if so how do we get around it? On Vista Basic can she run the program as an Administrator? Thanks, Phil -- Phil

Hey all.. I have a slight problem with my computer not accepting incoming connections or stopping at one of my ISP's servers at least.. Basically, I have set up an IRC server which is configured correctly, I can connect to it, other servers can link with it etc.. But if anyone tries to connect to it they get a connection refused message.. I have forwarded the port 6667 which is the port clients connect through.. They have tried both my internal and external IP address. So I asked somebody who knows a lot more about computers than myself.. They then proceeded to try ping my external IP.. Which was unsuccessful. After this they did a trace route which w…

Hello all, Before this week, when I clicked on a hyperlink to download file, it prompted me with a "Save as" window, followed by a download window (showing percentage it's downloading, etc). Now when I clicked on a hyperlink to download file (on the file on the same website), only a message was showing on the bottom left corner of the IE's status bar that a file is downloading (for the uninitiated, it looks like nothing is happening), and ONLY prompted me with a "Save as" window AFTER it finished downloading. There is quite a few short-comings with this new set-up as you can imagine. What happen? Can I re-configure to revert to its earlier operati…

Im trying to figure out where the Incomming connections on Server 2K3 are stored. I need to write a script to remove them from 2200 servers but im not finding a registry key or a file that is associated with it. Stoping the remoreconnections Service wont work for me as the machines must still be able to initiate dial-up connections. I currently have a vbs to do this but it must be run interactively which wont work for me in this case. Thoughts?
