On 2003 Server SP1 and 2003 R2 SP2 I have recently noticed that I am getting a second Copying window started with preparing paste information in it. Even after the file copy window itself has closed the preparing paste information windows stays open and has the source files locked. Anyone any ideas what this is about and if there are any side effects to cancelling the preparing paste information window? Regards, Major. p.s. Major is my Christian name :-)

Situation: A large update, like XP SP3, may fail to install without explanation. Microsoft Update may return an Error Code: 0x80200011. A check of the WindowsUpdate.log file may have the entry: "Priority" regulated and can NOT download. Cause: A corporate hardware firewall may prevent the download of such a large file. You may not receive any direct indication by the firewall that the download is blocked. There are several other explanations of this error in this forum, but I have not seen my situation described. I went through months of frustration, and a dozen failed attempts to upgrade. The problem was resolved by accessing the internet from outsi…

When Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 launched in March, I wrote a post describing the permissive intellectual property licensing approaches we took for components of that release, such as Creative Commons licenses for copyrights in selected specs and the Microsoft Open Specification Promise (“OSPâ€) for implementations of those specs. Now with the launch of Beta 2, I’m happy to highlight a few ways we’re continuing to make our innovations available to the community. By doing so, we hope to continue to foster the type of collaboration in the community that is so important to the “generativity†of the Internet, to borrow a term from Jonathan Zittrain (whose new b…

I have a small home network where I share files and a printer. The PC sharing files and the printer is a Windows 98 PC. Everything was working fine until recently. I can not longer print with users with limited account to the network printer. These user accounts can see and share file in the PC sharing the files and printer, but these accounts can not print. The admin account can print ok. The PC that connects to the other PC is running windows XP Professional version 2002, service pack 3. I have Norton 360 running in the XP PC. I uninstalled Norton 360 to see if Norton was causing the problem, but the outcome was the same… I could still not print to th…

Hi, I've searched through these forums & google to find a solution to fix this problem, but nothing has worked so far. I've even found this thread (-http://www.vistax64.com/general-discussion/166114-gadgets-will-not-install-sidebar.html-) which I thought might fix it, but after trying the solution it offered my problem was still there... Steps I've tried: - I've tried installing straight from the Microsoft website using IE & Firefox. - I've tried saving to a folder on my PC, then double clicking on the downloaded file to install. - I've tried right clicking on the downloaded file & unblocking it (-as per the link i posted above-) to install. …

Hello all, I'm running Hyper-V on Server 2008 Enterprise 64-bit edition. I've got a VBScript that opens up a virtual disk (.vhd file) on the Server 2008 system, modifies a file stored within the virtual disk, and then unmounts the .VHD file. This script works providing I "Run as Administrator" - any other account, regardless of whether it's a member of the local Administrators group or not, cannot run the script without it erroring out on mounting the ..VHD. Stepping through the script, I've noticed that Windows sees the .VHD and attempts to add it to the system, and the Driver Software Installation dialog reports that it was added successfully. H…

I added an Enterprise CA to a domain controller. When accessing the IIS interface, we request a certificate using the Advanced Certificate Request option. Then we select the Create & submit a request to this CA. On the request page only 2 templates are available: Basic EFS & User. I opened the Certificate Templates in an MMC & saw many more certificates, including Computer, which I want to use. I don't understand why these templates are unavailable at run time. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance.
