On one of my Vista Ultimate (32 bit) systems the order of the icons on the launch bar changes when I reboot my system. Also the task items gets pushed to the far right. I've unlocked the taskbar, moved the task list under the lauch bar, arranged the icons on the launch bar as I want to see them. I then lock the taskbar, and reboot my system. Upon reboot the icon arrangement is messed up and the running applications appear on the far right. I've searched for a solution but cannot find anything, possibly I've looked in the wrong places. Sugggestions would be appreicated

Hi, my name is Helen Drislane, I am a program manager on the IE team responsible for some of the user interface including tabs and I‘m going to discuss the new Tab Grouping feature (tab color!) with you. We had a lot of fun putting this feature together, so I am going to explain a little bit about the process involved in designing it and then describe the things you can do with it. EVOLUTION OF THE DESIGN AND ALGORITHM After shipping Internet Explorer 7, the IE team collected data from user reviews, from IE Feedback on MS Connect, and from other Microsoft product teams. We formed a list of top user requests which included the new Reopen Closed Tab feature, the…

Hi, When browsing to servers via UNC, the "Scheduled Tasks" share does not show up anymore. It used to show up, but now the window is just blank when browsing to \\<servername>. I am a member of the Local Administrators group, I have administrative privileges on the servers. When connecting to this server by Remote Desktop and by opening a windows explorer with \\<servername>, I can see the Scheduled Tasks share listed. Moreover when I am running a schtasks command from my computer on this server: schtasks /query /s <servername> I am getting a: Error: Access is Denied. But if run locally, it works fine and lists the scheduled jobs.…

I have a recurring issue with a Print Spooler on a Windows 2000 Server. A print job will get stuck and take a large amount of the CPU time. I stop the print spooler in Services, go into Windows (or Winnt) | System32 | Spool | Printers and delete all jobs in that folder and restart the print spooler. This fixes the issue temporarily, but several days later, the same process occurs. Is there a way to trace where the stuck print job is coming from, or has anyone run into this same issue? Thanks, David

On Monday, 09/29/08, my Windows Server 2003 system told me I was low on system resources, and when I checked, I only had 700 MB of 12 GB left of free disk space when I should of had 2.27 GB free space. The problem was the "CIfiles" folder, which held a 500 MB .ci file. The number in the file name was also on three other files, but they were small. The windows.edb file was 1GB. So, we stopped the Windows Search service, deleted all four "CIfiles" folder files with the filename of the 500 MB, and emptied the recycle bin. Then, the windows.edb file shrunk and the disk space increased back to 2.27 GB free space. We restarted the Windows Search service, and this…

This has nothing to do with Windows Update functionality. Forwarded to WinXP General via crosspost. > I run Windows XP SP3...and Registry [Mechanic] You'll probably have to reinstall the application in order to uninstall it, since Registry Mechanic probably removed the necessary uninstall files for the current install. If I leave the computer alone for around 5 minutes it goes into a sleep mode. Moving the mouse brings up my password screen. Entering the pw brings me back to where I left off. I have the sleep mode set to never shut down the computer when plugged in, and 1 hour on battery. Turn off display is set to 20 minutes for both plugged in and on battery. Thanks for your help. Hope I'm posting this in the right section.. I run Vista MCE through a 42" screen. My biggest frustration is not being able to fit more of the program guide into the screen - either by decreasing the font size and/or increasing the size of the program guide grid - to allow me to see more of the programs in the future without having to manually scroll forward. With all the marketing I am seeing with people using Media Center huge TVs I am wondering why it is not more obvious how to see more. Does anyone know how to do this? Any help is greatly appreciated!! -- benjaminshaw123 Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com

Hi, We had Symantec Firewall earlier and there were couple of rules that were defined (I am not sure whether it was defined in the GPO or using local machine policy). The rules were that if the machine was getting DHCP address then they were blocked at the firewall for access violation of certain sites. So, the users had to log in to Symantec and was then allowed to go out. We have now removed Symantec firewall and we have added another product called Fortigate. So, when the user tries to access some sites which are restricted by the firewall. But, if the same user is provided a static address IP range which is actually allowed to go through the f…

I have discovered that Read Receipt feature in Outlook 2007 contain security hole that doesn't appear to be fixed or even described. In "Options\E-mail Options\Tracking Options" I've feature named Read Receipt set to "Never send a response". Recently I received a few messages with titles "Undeliverable mail: Read: ....". After inspecting this mail messages I've found that their mime-headers is OK and it looks like Outlook sent mail messages (without any notifications) titled "Read: ..." to a few SPAM messages in my inbox (IMAP4 account). Of course these spam-messages have Read Receipt option set. I've made simple test to determine is that really bug b…

Hi all guys. I want a feed back from all of you about the behaviour of your Vista machines in the case you wake them up from sleep with a task scheduled in the vista task scheduler. I mean, i scheduled various tasks to perform during the night time setting them to wake the computer up from sleep. It is clear that i don't want the screen to wake up from standby since i am sleeping and no one need to see what's on the monitor. Instead i found in the morning that the screen is not in standby but is in two possible conditons, it is on showing the logon screen or it is on showing only a black screen with the mouse poiter. Is there a way to force the monitor to…
