Hi All: I have Vista Business sp1 on a workstation, which is part of 2008 domain. The box had been previously running XP pro sp3, but I did a fresh install. I had been logging into XP as an admin. When I first installed Vista I was prompted to create a user account, which I did, and then manually migrated over my documents, imported my Outlook Express psts into Mail, etc. So I'm logging in as a local user. I joined the computer to the domain and everything is fine, except I need to authenticate on the domain whenever I need to do something like open a server share. I'd rather log onto the workstation as a domain user, but I realize if I do this I will …

We have a computer that was bought from a now-defunct computer reseller that had an invalid VLK product key on it. We bought new copies of Windows XP Professional but on this machine, it will not allow me to update the product key to the legal one. Of course, to simply email MS support would cost us $59 on top of the $145 we paid for the Windows XP Pro we bought. Is there some way other than through this downloadable tool to update the product key to our legal key? Thanks

Never mind the RAM count, I re-read the OP. Even at 3.2 Ghz a Celeron is severely limited doing the work you indicate. "R. *reposted from 'network_web' as no response there* I have recently installed WinXP Pro (previously Win2K) on my small (two PC) home network. Previously I had shared folders and CD/DVD drives between the two PCs. After the install, I can share folders but do not get the share option for the DVD drive: http://www.firish.com/share1.JPG http://www.firish.com/share2.JPG The sharing of the file folders is fine (ie, I have connectivity, permissions, etc.). Any ideas what is going on here? Thanks. PS I have since found a setting in Policies that enables/disables that share but confirmed that the switch is set correctly.
