Hi all, Here is a summary of what is teh probelm and what I have done so far. When a user plugs in any USB flash drive, the "Found New Hardware" Wizard pops up. If you follow it through, it eventually asks for the USBNTMAP.sys file which is a file associated with USB mass storage on Windows Me. I am definately on a Windows XP SP2 machine. These USB flash drives work perfectly on other Windows XP machines. What I have done: I have downloaded and installed the chipset drivers for the laptop. I have removed all USB devices in the Device manager and then rebooted the laptop. I had to reinstall all the USB devices manually by the way. I ran chkds…

I have a user who has Windows Vista Home Basic (32-bit) and they keep getting an error, especially when trying to launch WindowsMail. There are two errors. The first is "C:\windows\AppPatch\AcLayers.dll is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error...." The other is the same exact message, except for c:\Windows\system32\inetres.dll. Then it will pop up an error message stating that Windows Mail could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be loaded. I did some research yesterday and found that it is a known issue with KB935280 and uninstalling and supposedly reinstalling with the correct version would fix it. I uninstalled that hotfix and tried t…

Hello all, I'm new here but found a lot of interesting stuff already.I am in the process of rolling out Vista Business machines our users who need OpenVPN access to connect to our network from home.I have installed VPN and done all of the relevant certificate requirements which allow access into the network, but my only problems is that I cannot get the program file to run at start up.By doing this all they have to do is double click on the icon on the taskbar to launch the connection. Without this, they have to run as administrator from the desktop and then double click the icon, which most people forget.I added it as a scheduled task to run at start up but it looks like…

For our patch testing process we install our internally approved patches to the lab environment systems (servers and clients). We then follow a basic checklist to see if any post install errors/issues arise - such as application problems and basic functionality. We also verify the all the event logs to for any issues. If no problems are found we then approve these pathes for production deployment. For our servers, we take backup images, using True Image (during our monthly maintenance window), applying any patches so we are able to roll back if any issues arise. I imagine many of you follow a similar process but would like to know what you folks use for…

Hi Greetings!!! Hackers are on move stop them before they enter your network. Beat hackers at their own game attend our training and excel in hacking and its counter measures. If you want to stop hackers from invading your network, first you've got to invade their minds. Computers around the world are systematically being victimized by rampant hacking. This hacking is not only widespread, but is being executed so flawlessly that the attackers compromise a system, steal everything of value and completely erase their tracks within 20 minutes. The goal of the ethical hacker is to help the organization take preemptive measures against malicious attacks b…

Hello, I am running on x64 XP with 8 GB of RAM. I have issues copying or moving large files, either from drive to drive or over the network. When this happens my RAM is slowly eaten away until there is none left and the system starts aggressively paging. I googled and found this: http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/29912456/file-copy-operations-and.aspx Which is the same problem, so I know I am not alone. I'm just wondering if A: anyone else on here has experienced this, and B: if there is a solution at all? I should note that neither task manager nor process explorer show my RAM as being full when copying a file, but I have a little system…

There is a significant contrast in what frank says he is all about with what frank shows hes all about. Big frank claims he is rich, handsome, successful, computer literate, smart, and can kick ass... while from everything frank posts the conclusion is in reality LITTLE FRANK! He is broke, old and falling apart, the biggest loser in the world, a computer illiterate, a super duper idiot, and a coward. Proof is in every single post of Frank... there is no hiding the truth. Yes frank is the biggest loser you will ever meet online and offline (*) (*) even though frank is a super duper loser he is still LESS revolting than the semi-dead quasi-gen…

Inbreeding is breeding between close relatives, whether plant or animal. It was found that Adam Albright of the vista.general forum practiced this sick kind of behavior. If practiced repeatedly, it leads to an increase in homozygosity of a population. A higher frequency of recessive, deleterious traits in homozygous form in a population can, over time, result in inbreeding depression. This may occur when inbred individuals exhibit reduced health and fitness and lower levels of fertility. Livestock breeders often practice inbreeding to "fix" desirable characteristics within a population. However, they must then cull unfit offspring, especially when tr…

I support an automation lab. Sometimes systems seem to shut down when they are supposed to restart. I have never caught a system in the act, but I see it in the automation logs. The most common time for this to happen is switching between OSes. Each system has 4 OSes (xp,vista, 32,64, mix 'n match). The system uses batch files to set up a change in OS. The shutdown command used in the batch file is shutdown -r -f Are there known cases where a XP or vista machine shuts down instead of rebooting? Googling this sort of thing gets me huge numbers of useless (for my current problem) "my windows won't shut down" pages.

I bought a newer MS Natural Ergo Keyboard 4000 to replace my very old white MS Natural Keyboard Elite. I was very disappointed to find that the space bar was stiff or sticky. So I searched the web for all the possible solutions. Here's what I found and tried: 1. lubricate plastic posts on underside of key (didn't work) 2. twist metal sway bar away from each other slightly (acceptable) 3. remove metal sway bar completely (acceptable) I took pictures of the procedures. Here's the gallery - http://www.paulstravelpictures.com/MS-Natural-Ergo-Keyboard-Sticky-Spacebar-Fix/ Hopefully this will help some of you that have this keyboard. Cheers, Paul Michaels …
