Drew, IE7 32-bit (the default one in Vista x64) has all the bells and whistles you are used to. IE7 64-bit looks more like a barebones, and faster one, because it lacks of flash animations, java and activex as they are all 32-bit. Some prefer IE7 64-bit, like Charlie, other IE7 32-bit. If you don't need the flashing gizmos, IE7 64-bit is all you need. Carlos "Drew" wrote: > Being new to 64 bit I will ask the perennial stupid question, What is the > difference in regular old IE7 and IE7 64bit and which should one use ??.. > Thanks for your help and any giggles this may provide... >

I suddenly started getting a lot of appcrashes last week and the sound is gone. I have had the computer for 10 months - not problem free of course but at least I haven't encountered this before. I use the command 'wmic product' to list the installed software on either the local or a remote computer. It works most of the time on x32 systems but when I use it on XP x64 or server 2003 x64 systems I get an Invalid class error 0x80041010. Same story when using WMI in a script. Does anyone know what the story is with x64 versions of Windows (Vista x64 works!). Another namespace maybe? Thanks, Tom Gilmour Tecsult Inc.

When I plug in a USB media reader to read 4 or 8 GB SDHC media chips, it takes about 5 minutes before the removable hard drive is recognized. This is happening with 2 different brands of chips using 2 different brands of USB media readers. Using the same readers with FAT formatted SD chips they are recognized immediately. This same symptom is happening on two other W/XP computers as well as my Vista computer. Does anyone else have this problem? Better yet, is there a fix? Roger

Hi, We installed the critical update KB958644 on a Windows Server 2008 machine 2 days ago and have experienced a massive increase in CPU utilisation, apparently for the System process. Our performance monitor reports typically showed the web server running in the 5-15% CPU utilisation range for the whole day even under fairly heavy load. For the last 2 days, the CPU graph now looks like an earthquake has hit and we have had to reboot the server both days to reset the CPU to normal. Today, the graph was showing 90%+ CPU utilisation and we were not able to RDP to the box and all web sites were non-responsive so had to get the ISP to do a hard reboot. The grap…

I purchased my laptop as I was heading overseas for a temporary relocation (Australia). While I was there, I used Media Center to access some of the local online content (Bigpond). Now that I am back in the States, Media Center is not showing me any American online content. It only shows the Australian content, which I can no longer access as I am in the States... I have changed all of the regional settings that I can find, and I still can't get it to access American content. Again, I am in the States trying to do this. Is there any way to have media center refresh it's online content based on a new region? Please help -- Stutch Posted via htt…

On my old XP machine, I had it set up with a second tool bar at the top of my screen with an address bar there where I could type in web pages to open them up, folders to open the folder, or programs, like notepad.exe to launch the programs. I also somehow had it set up where I could type "g whatever" and it would search google for "whatever", "d whatever" and it would search dictionary.com, etc for about 5 different search engines. It was built into XP and you could choose a one-letter prefix to select the search engine. For the life of me, I haven't been able to figure out how to set this up in Vista. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, what it's called …

Hi – we build gaming machines here, many of which contain ruggedised PC’s running XP Embedded. We’re now upgrading our hardware, and my employer is willing to let me have several unused motherboards for very little. The boards have XP Embedded licences and COA with them, and I’d like to build them into PC’s, but the Embedded build we use is pretty minimal, so I’d like to put full XP Pro on them. If this is legit (my very limited understanding is that XPe can be built pretty much any way you like, up to a full XP Pro build), any tips as to how I might go about preparing an image or install CD? More of a hobby, ie for learning, than anything …

I have an ACER portable computer. I very recently upgraded to XP home service pack 3. The default language is Greek. Since then, most of the time I cannot switch from one language to the other (Greek and English), neither from the keyboard nor by using the tool bar menu. Some times the languages do change but this is not reflected on the tool bar. Is it possible for someone to help me on this?
