Thank you ,Heresgeo ,for your very specific directions how to solve this problem. I will certainly try this option and get back to you on the results. I do not understand why the Microsoft people at their Update service could not come up with an answer. Their way of solving this issue was to remove SQL server from my computer. I really apreciate the help. Removing SQL from my computer did not seem the right answer. It was obviously put there for a purpose. I am not so computer literate to figure out why I need SQL, but if it was on my computer it is there for a purpose. This has been a most frustrating experience. I thank you again for bothering to answer …

Hello. I have bought my new pc system three weeks ago. i have the vista ultimate package installed. My problem is that my system cannot understand the greek language. I have downloaded the greek language package from the vista updater and installed it succesfully. I may be able to read a file online but when i download it i can't read it anymore. The greek characters change into non-readable ones. I found out that the problem is about notebook mostly. All the notepad files i have downloaded are saved as ANSI and that's why i can't read them. If i write in the notebook program i have to save the file as Unicode and not ANSI. Is there anyway to download a notepad…

For those who experience problems with updates for vista, there is only one sure way of overcoming this without all the hassle. 1- delete the main partition, then create a partition, then reformat the drive, usually C:\ 2 - Install Vista 3- DO NOT install anything at all, no firewall or antivirus, just let windows firewall and windows defender take care of things for now. 4- Update vista, continue to update/restart and update until there are no more updates available. 5- place a shortcut on the desktop for " windows update " (Control Panel/windows update-"right click, send to desktop-create shortcut) 6- install your third part software one at a time, after each…

Under Windows XP, when I would connect to another network via VPN, I would get an icon in the system tray indicating my connection in addition to the icon for my "regular" connectivity to the internet/lan. With Vista, a single icon serves as an indicator for any and all networks I am currently connected to. How can I separate the icons to reflect the behavior I had with XP? Thanks, ~alan

I try to follow this instruction: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/startmfu.htm ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Resolution Right-click an empty area in the Start menu and select Properties. In the Start Menu tab, click Customize. Configuration options for the Programs list are on the General tab. Make sure that the "Number of programs on Start" is not set to 0. Try clearing the MFU list in the registry once, by pressing Clear List button. Disable the two policies namely NoInstrumentation and NoStartMenuMFUprogramsList. At location A I use SJ4850. At location B I use SJ8250. I use the same laptop (HP Pavilion dv9000) at both locations. This system has worked well in the past. I’m now at location B. Suppose I scan a fully printed A4 sheet. I see an A4 image, but the printed sheet has been “pushed” to the right and upwards, lopping part of it off, while leaving corresponding blank space at the left and the bottom. Have tried reinstalling the HP drivers to no effect. The defect seems to be at the HP end as four different software scanning programs give the same result. Is there a way of regaining congruence? Is SJ8250 dying?

Brutal does not describe the XP File Transfer utility. I ran the utility on my XP machine to output all my settings to an external drive. I then installed a new laptop hard drive and re-installed the same version of XP with SP3. When I tried to run the utility I got the message that the Migration store was created with a previous version of files and settings. How am I supposed to go back and create the export with a different version of the utility. as an IT Software Developer I can't imagine how non IT people would feel about this brutally bad utility. This is beyond Frustrating. Fed up with non user friendly issues such as this! Whoever wrote that util…

Hi all, Just recently I have noticed that when viewing file properties for .sys files the 'details' tab contains very little information, as can be seen here with tcpip.sys: http://www.mikeyjames.com/psys.jpg It seems about 50/50 whether details from a .sys file will be interpreted properly by Vista. This was confirmed by using System Information: http://www.mikeyjames.com/sysinf.jpg I then noticed that a third party app (SiSoft Sandra) was able to read the info without any problems: http://www.mikeyjames.com/psandra.jpg I thought I'd try and see what effect changing the file extension had & changed it to tcpip.dll. This resulted in all the info…
