Don't hit it. Hit F8 instead which gives you the angry user all the options of F12 plus quite a number of others. Indeed, some of theses other options maybe worthwhile even on an healthy machine. Indeed, I see it as a failing of Vista and MS when the OS suggests F12 rather than F8 when things go wrong. If you are an Newbie check this out. I may not be sober but I am at least partly right.........TRIG

Hi all, I noticed that in my user directory, there are several folders with names something like this: {2d4a7764-44a4-4e2a-85d4-356053db96ba} These folders contain some dll and security catalog files. I was wondering how did those folders appear on my computer ad if it was safe to delete them. Thanks

Hi all I'm hoping someone can shed some enlightenment. I'm configuring SCOM for a customer and we're trying to monitor machines in a DMZ that are not part of a domain. In fact although they are in workgroups, there are no workgroup servers. The servers and PCs that are needing monitoring are all standalone. We've stood up a standalone root CA, and created certificates for the SCOM servers, imported them to both the Local Computer store and used MOMCertImport.exe to use them with SCOM. However, all the documentation I've seen so far says that to create the certificate for the non-domain machines, the cert requires a FQDN. How can you use and FQDN for a …

So, I found out today that wql doesn't support array datatypes, which complicates the process immensely that I'm trying to use to get a property from certain events within the event log. Any thoughts on why arrays aren't supported?

[think: Walken] Wow. Doris. WOW! Microsoft has had and does have several utilities that will format a FAT32 partition larger than 32GB. There is a limit on why XP/2K won't do it out of the box for a good reason. Do a little research when you're not endlessly tweaking your linux quick lube back end. Hi, I have been having a reoccuring issue where my Windows DNS Server suddenly stops resolving high profile major websites (news.bbc.co.uk as an example), and the only way to get it to resolve these domains again is to clear the cache. This happens every few days. Is this a known issue, or is there something that I am supposed to be doing? Is there a long term solution? Regards Richard

I am trying to install Microsoft .NET Framework V3.5 and am currently having no success. It's been almost a year and a half since my Automatic Updates stopped working and my computer seems to not be able to connect to the Microsoft network at all. I need to update my .NET Framework to V3.5 so I can run a few new programs, most importantly a new video converter I recently stumbled upon. Is there anyway to download the full update from a mirror somewhere that is not windows or perhaps restore my connection to windows? I have noticed that when I go on vacation hotel internet seems to allow me to connect and receive updates. Last weekend I traveled to the Dolphin Re…

I have an HP with Vista Home Premium installed with SP1. It automatically downloads updates. I am the only user & person with access and there is only my account on the computer under my name so it show to be the sole administrator. Every time the system restarts or reboots my preferences are lost (including system self reboots when updates are applied). The Start Menu reverts from Classic which I prefer, to the default. Personal preferences for installed progams like games are removed so I continually get a pop up to accept them each time I want to play them, even though I go through the routine of adding them as accepted. I need some hel…

All, I've recently installed the Recovery Console on a 2003 x86 server and a 2003 x64 server (both new PowerEdge servers) however when I reboot and select the RC option it quickly displays "a disk read error occurred" and it fails to start. I figured that it was maybe having a problem reading the SCSI disk so I took a look at the unsupdrv.inf file in the cmdcons folder and it appeared to be referencing the percsas.sys driver correctly (i.e. correct PERC hardware ID and sys file location) so I'm at a loss as to what's up. Both installs were run from either the i386 or amd64 folders and both ran dynamic update during the install. Any ideas on this would b…
